Chapter Text

Kate was proud of how far the blonde boy had come in the week that she’d been training him.

She was following him around on his second ever patrol as he helped Tim from the shadows.

He was much better now, actually able to take out the bad guys as opposed to just throwing projectiles and hoping.

Tim still hadn’t noticed him, and Kate figured that meant it was time for Tim to get a Batwoman Bootcamp™.

But that would come later, for now she could celebrate her success with the blonde boy.

She watched as he took down a thug behind Tim with a chokehold.

It wasn’t too bad at all, he wasn’t a perfect fighter, and Kate would definitely insist on training him further, but he was a lot better than when he’d first started.

She watched as he disappeared into the shadows before Tim could notice him, and her nephew frowned at the thug on the ground.

She smirked slightly, before turning back to her own fight that she ought to be paying more attention too.

Not that it was a hard fight.

She turned just too late to warn Tim about the bullet heading his way.

Bernard cried out, and Tim went down.

She punched the guy she’d been fighting before rushing over to her nephew’s side.

“Ow ow ow.”

Tim sat up, and only had a graze on his forehead.

Kate couldn’t even see the bone, it wasn’t that bad at all.

She sighed in relief, before going to pull out her bandages, except she didn’t appear to have any.

Was she so caught up in training Bernard and making sure that he was ready that she forgot to repack her kit.

Bruce could never know about this.

-

Conner frowned at Tim as he walked in with a nasty gash on his forehead.

He was holding up some tissue to it, but it was bleeding through regardless.

“Tim, what happened?”

“Bullet I couldn’t dodge in time, it’s nothing.”

It didn’t look like nothing.

Tim sat down at the table after pulling out the medkit from under the sink.

“Is that the sound of my wonderful boyfriend returning home?”

Bernard walked through the door and frowned at the gash on Tim’s forehead.

“Isn’t living in Gotham fun, come here. I have the training to patch you up properly.”

Bernard sat in front of him and started cleaning the cut.

Conner met Tim’s eyes over his head.

They would have to lie to Bernard, as Tim still thought his boyfriend had no idea.

So, Conner would be lying to Tim in order to help him lie to Bernard.

He didn’t feel great about all this lying.

Maybe he should just blurt out the truth. Tell Bernard that he was superboy and tell Tim that Bernard was Shadowstar.

But that would be a betrayal of Bernard’s secrets.

And he had promised to talk to Tim before telling Bernard about their secret identities.

Conner didn’t know what to do.

He didn’t want to keep lying, but the secrets weren’t his to tell.

“Thanks B, don’t know what I’d do without you.”

Bernard smiled as he lightly kissed Tim’s forehead, “I’m sure Alfred could keep you alive.”

Tim laughed and shoved his boyfriend, but Conner couldn’t even muster up a smile.

“I’m sorry, I can’t do this. You both need to know the truth.”

-

Bernard frowned at Conner.

“Con, what are you talking about?”

Tim’s voice had a slight warning tone to it.

Bernard couldn’t help but agree.

“Everyone in this room is a superhero.”

Damn it Conner, why would he tell - wait everyone?

There was a long silence as the three of them just stared at each other like the spider-man meme.

“E-everyone?”

Tim was the first to break it.

“Yes, everyone. I am Superboy. You are Red Robin, and Bernard is Shadowstar.”

He was dating his top two favourite heroes?

This was the single best moment of his entire life.

“I am so in love with both of you right now.”

Tim slammed his head down onto the table.

Bernard started laughing, he couldn’t help it.

He knew he should probably be upset that his boyfriends had been keeping secrets from him, but he got it.

Vigilante life is dangerous, and he was just a civilian.

He knew that they were trying to protect him, and he appreciated that.

They just didn’t need to protect him anymore.

Batwoman had taught him a lot, and he was sure to learn more.

He was happy to be with his boyfriends.

He would always be happy with his boyfriends.

-

Tim was very glad for the way Bernard had dealt with the situation.

He had wanted to tell his boyfriend about his nightlife, but he hadn’t known how.

And while Tim didn’t want his very-much-destructible boyfriend out on the streets, it was better than Bernard getting upset.

Conner was also clearly relieved, but more because of how Tim had reacted to the entire situation.

Tim was going to circle back around to the fact that Conner knew about Bernard’s antics later.

Bernard was still laughing, Tim had a brief thought that he should go to Arkham with all that deranged laughter.

“B?”

Conner glanced at Tim before concentrating his concerned look at their boyfriend.

Bernard tried to say something, but it was lost to the laughter.

“Oh let him be.”

Tim pushed himself out of the chair and wandered over to the fridge.

He was in the mood for cheese.

-

Conversations were had, and points were made.

Tim was relieved, Conner was glad that he didn’t have to keep lying, and Bernard was the happiest he’d ever been.

Kate was still watching over her queer nephews.

She didn’t trust that they’d be alright on their own.

She was going to put them all through a Batwoman Bootcamp™.

Maybe after that they could all be competent superheroes.

She watched as Tim tripped on air and fell into Conner, who promptly forgot that he had super-strength and went flying into the ground.

Maybe they’re doomed for incompetence forever.

Notes:

And that is a wrap, on this fic at least. Thank you so much for reading and enjoying, I hope you liked the journey of Bernard becoming Shadowstar.
