Chapter Text
#1: In class yugi for some reason learns way quicker when its about dark and grim topics like slavery, diseases, wars etç etç
It's odd to him, math always seems to confuse him, the numbers twitching and spiraling into something else. Geometry is even more of a loss, shapes that don't make sense, corridors that never end. But in history, learning about dictatorships, about rulers who stood with their pride and drank in praise and condemnation like his Puzzle drinks in light. He doesn't understand why, but death and devastation never confuse him the way other things do.
#2: If yugi is in someone's peripheral vision, he is seen as a figure made of shadows
Miho always feels odd beside Yugi. He's strange to look at, with his big eyes and eccentric hair, but whenever she turns her head away, she sees something even stranger. Yugi isn't entirely Yugi anymore when see catches him in the corner of her eye. Instead, darkness seems to ripple around him, crawl its way into her vision. There's something wrong with his shape, his edges. Strange, hungry darkness hovering in the corner of her eye. Perhaps, looking at him directly is less frightening, even when his eyes are slightly...wrong.
#3: Animals with a connection to seeing spirits (ex. Crows and cats) are affected by Yugis presence
Yugi has always been fond of animals, especially cats, but they don't get close to him anymore. Stand and watch from a safe distance, but when he gets close, they hiss and startle and scurry away. Crows are curious of him, hop across the parking lots and the dewy park grass to get a closer look.
#4: Blood that contacts the Puzzle is absorbed, as if consumed
It was an accident, at first. Pricking his fingertip on a safety pin in home ec. A small bead of blood welling up at the tippy top of his skin. He'd made a small pained sound, and wiped it off on the edge of his Puzzle. He watched it, then, sink into the gold, vanish. A warm trembling feeling shivers through him from the heart to the rest, and his eyes seem to focus in a way they never do anymore.
After that, it becomes less accidential, more of a guilty pleasure. Whenever he feels tired, whenever he feels hungry, upset, alone. Always, the pleasant and warm feeling, that alleviation. He can't shake the sense that his Puzzle is content, where it once had been hungry.
#5: Yugi has a tendency to say "we" instead of "I" when talking about himself
"We were going to go down to the mall today," Yugi bubbles, excitedly shoveling his books into his bag.
"No we weren't," Anzu says, looking at him in confusion. Yugi starts, slightly.
"Not you," he agrees.
"Than who? You and Jou? Honda?" She asks, running down the list of his friends.
Yugi shakes his head to each one. "No, no...maybe i said the wrong thing." His hand moves slightly to his Puzzle as he walks out the door, and Anzu follows it with her eyes. Is that what he had meant? Him and his Puzzle? She rubs her eyes. What a silly thought.
