Chapter Text
Port Mafia. Then I have no choice but to do as you say.
“Huh? Why would we join some random ass detective agency?” Chuuya asked, looking genuinely confused. Dazai thought he was adorable, bewildered and covered in bandages as he was.
Can I make a guess? The reason you want to die. You want to die because you are a fool.
Dazai hummed, rolling his hoshi no tama in his palm. “I don’t know… ever since I used the Page, I just feel like… that’s how it’s supposed to be.”
Dazai, if I ask, will you come with me?
Chuuya raised an eyebrow. “Explain more, dipshit. Communication, remember?”
Dazai laughed. “’Be on the side that saves people. If both sides are the same, become a good man. Protect the weak. Save some orphans,’” he recited, a weird, gentle smile on his face, eyes crinkled but sad. “I don’t know why, but of all the things I experienced when I used the book, those words stood out the most to me.”
“This isn’t more covenant-or-whatever bullshit, is it? ‘Cause I can't stand another life-bound-promise situation.”
Dazai shook his head, that odd smile never leaving his face. “No. I just feel like it might… make this world a bit less dark,” he murmured cryptically. Chuuya rolled his eyes. “It’s worth a shot, isn’t it?” Dazai looked at Chuuya. Chuuya considered him for a long moment.
“I guess,” he finally huffed.
“Besides,” Dazai added in a teasing voice, “chibi never belonged in the dark anyway. Too kind.”
“Oi! I fucking killed people too!” Chuuya griped. He would have loved to get up and kick Dazai, but, of course, he could not. He settled for a mean glower.
Dazai laughed. “Sure, sure, slug. I'm sure you were realllll bad,” he teased, drawing out the ‘real’. “I saw you jaywalking once, it truly was an act of rebellion against this blind society.”
Dazai laughed at Chuuya's shrieks of rage, a genuine smile on his face.
I know neither good nor evil means much to you, but at least it would make your world a little more beautiful.
Of course I know. I know better than anyone.
Because...
I am your friend.
