Chapter Text

Jake jolts awake as his phone alarm rings so loudly indicating a new day, another class he has to attend, another discussion he might or might not doze off to, probably another lesson that he will less likely use in the real world, but at least it’s Friday — meaning he wouldn’t have to wake up again as early for tomorrow.

He opens his eyes to a navy blue wall, a bedroom quite different from his ivory ones, covered in a grey comforter that isn’t his own.

Right.

Last night.

Last night still feels like a fever dream, not in a bad way, but not in a good way either. Jake had so many strange and vivid dreams before. One time he had a dream of exploring a historical palace as a scholar with Sunghoon. Weird right? He met the guy twice before, not even having any kind of conversation with him but the dream felt real, his voice gave him shivers.

“Riki, down! No bother papa.” Jake hears one of the kid’s voices of what seems like Riki is causing trouble but Jay must be with them.

“Ahhh no! Wan’ pa flip.” The younger refutes.

Jake takes that as a sign to go outside, checking at his friend’s vanity mirror to look at himself first before showing up at their kitchen to be welcomed by the two kids.

“Papa wakey! Riki wan’ watch pa flip.” Riki says, prancing to him, reaching out his hand to Jake as if asking him to lift him up to get a better view. So he did just what the younger wanted, Riki even hugging him with both his arms.

“Good morning, you woke up early?” When he got close enough, he greeted Jay who was busy heating the pan while walking towards him, their youngest in his arms.

It weirdly feels domestic, yet it also feels familiar as if he’s had a morning like this a thousand times with Jay, with the two kids. Like a scene from his favorite movie that’s been played enough to be instilled in his mind. The kids have only been here for what? 4? 5 hours? Yet all of these feel too familiar.

“The kids woke me up early, they said they miss my pancakes. Pray for me, I have no idea what kind of pancakes I made for them.” Jay whispers aggressively. The older was panicking   – not in an emergency kind of way, he’s just afraid that he’ll make a completely different pancake from what the two kids were expecting and disappoint them.

What kind of pancakes did Jongseong make for them?

“Riki…” Jake starts.

“Is it alright if papa only puts honey on our pancakes today?” He tries to buy more time for him to remember what it is, but he’s sure they won’t have the ingredients on their unfortunate pantry anyway. Their poor grocery list consists of 50% ramyeon, 30% of other instant or canned food and the last 20 are just random stuff they find inside the store.

“Hmm” Jungwon thinks aloud.

“Riki buy pa cakes at church. Wonie don't remember. Ho- Hopok?”

Bingo.

So it was hotteok.

Jay and Jake huffs a breath of relief and Jungwon smiles at them as if he knows they were having trouble with his younger brother’s request.

“Pa cakes best! No wan’ buy, wan’ papa Seong pa-cakes.” Riki aggressively shakes his head to disagree with his older brother’s proposition.

“Go have a bite, I can handle them.”

-

“C’mon man, don’t ditch us. You’ve been talking about that restaurant since forever, why would you not want to go.”

“Sorry man, I really gotta go. Let’s have a meal some other time, yeah?” The day was long enough for Jake. He has to go home for Jay, and the two kids.

So he did just that and quickly went home, the scene welcoming him melts him as he sees Jay sleeping peacefully at the sofa with Riki on top of his chest and Wonie on his side holding his hand. Not having the heart to wake Jay up for his 4PM classes, so he gives him extra 5 minutes to nap.

Notes:

Hi! I'm back after a very long time. I actually saw this from my drafts and it would be a bummer if I just leave it as it is.

In this chapter you can see that I kind of changed the way Jungwon speaks. It is intentional tho. I imagine Jungwon being very tensed in the first chapter, not knowing whether his 'parents' will accept both him and his younger sibling. So as the older si ling, he had to act very mature. But in this chapter, knowing he is safe with his 'parents', he has become more comfortable which is shown in his way of speaking. But I still do love that he is still very hyung-like with Riki.

Notes:

This had been in my drafts forever.
