BostonBearz: I’m late to this one but wanting to share with the class that it was confirmed that Roz did visit Hollander at the hospital to pay his respects. The Bears’ official SM also sends their well wishes. I also normally don’t follow the Voyagers’ accounts super closely, but the injuries Lily listed out in the fic were accurate to what was released and Hollander is out for the rest of the season and the playoffs. He is expected to make a full recovery and be back on the starting line next season.

CanadianHabitant: I haven’t mentioned this before but I’m doing my PHD in anthropology (i think that might be a bit obvious from the types of comments I leave) but this is incredibly fascinating to me. Like you didn’t say it explicitly but you gave a 15k long dissertation on why representation matters. Why seeing different identities represented on a screen has real-world impact. How progress isn’t linear (and genuinely, I never lose as much faith in humanity as I do when I look at twitter) but any step in the right direction makes waves. It paves the way for others.
This might be written through lilybestbackhand’s interpretation of Rozanov, whom is depicted to be bisexual, but picture it from the lens of any player that is queer, or feels other. The author clearly has a lot of first-hand experience with hockey, in however capacity it is, and they’re feeling these things. Or any person that chose not to pursue a sport or passion because they felt like they didn’t belong.
I genuinely might cite some of the passages in here for my thesis. It’s such a powerful perspective that shows so much insight into the human condition.

Hollzy24Player: it’s crazy to me how heartfelt you can be while still calling Hunter old every second line. But also, it’s insane how looming the presence of Russia is in Roz’s introspection without it being really spelled out. I know it was mentioned as a point of conflict during the AllStars game but since then, it’s never been touched on again but I can feel it so strongly. Makes me wonder how many other players would want to be as brave as Hunter but are even further intimidated by more than just the hockey factors.
CaptainRozy: If the Russia thing weren’t enough for Lily’s Roz, they also
have to contend with the rivalry. Someone like Hunter with a
squeaky clean New York art student boyfriend is possibly the most
palpable way someone could have been the first.
I’m thinking of the whole lily-verse and, being from Boston, the
Hollanov rivalry means a lot here. Other fans genuinely despise
MTL and Hollander. They burn his jersey in parking lots before
games regularly.
If the hockey of it all wasn’t enough. Then the Russia of it all
and THEN the rivalry of it all. I know we were all screaming for the cottage
since Lily’s hospital fic but, seriously, she gave Roz some major balls.
Hollzy24Player: Yeah I feel you. It’s easy to forget since we’re so friendly
with each other in lily’s comments section, but even on the Shayden side,
most fans really hate on Roz. Make him the villain all the time. The rivalry
angle is something that lily’s fics touch on but it genuinely is huge.
Hollanov101: how is it that this ship keeps getting me more and more
brain rotted and emotionally unstable. I don’t touch regular hockey fandom
so i don’t think it ever clicked how real and violent the rivalry is.
