Chapter Text

(Dec 9, 2003)
(Light Yagami's POV)
It had been around maybe, 3 to 4 days since the accident. And even after the Kanto region-wide news about the Lind 'L' Tailor broadcast reached a global audience, it'd probably be a surprise to the two that knew of Light's identity as Kira that he was not panicking at all within the passing days til now- well - not in front of his family of course, suspicions of someone out of the hundreds of thousands of people in Japan being Kira had been confirmed, and Light being visibly nervous, especially after the broadcast, would raise questions. Maybe that's why he was spending his evening helping his little sister with her homework for what felt like the 10th time this week, his hand massaging his forehead in pure stress as he finished explaining quadratic equations to her.

"There. Now do you finally understand how to solve quadratic equations? I'm not gonna explain it to you again Sayu." The girl in question looked up at him and grinned nervously as the words came out of her mouth through the occasional stuttering, "...Y-Yeah! Thanks Light!...Knew I could count on y-!" The sound of the doorbell ringing downstairs made both of them turn their heads towards Light's bedroom door. "Hm? who could be ringing the door at this time? Maybe dad's back home early tonight!" Sayu said, practically jumping out of the chair and making her way towards the bedroom door at lighting speed, only doing so as an excuse to not study math. "Are you gonna come down for dinner or stare at books and stink up your room all day?" She said, turning around just to snicker at him as soon as she finishes her remark towards Light, who sighed as he shooed her away jokingly. "I'll be down in a few minutes, don't wait up for me," He replied, watching as the girl hurriedly went downstairs to greet their dad. He had gotten up to make sure Sayu was gone before going back to his desk to take the death note out, which surprised Ryuk, making him chuckle.

"You really gonna start writing names down already? Along with helping your sister with her homework, it seems you sure are relaxed about this whole situation. Even after what happened a few days ago." Light turned to look at Ryuk, smirking as he straighted his posture, "Well, of course I am. If the police try to come after me, I'm pretty confident I've got something that'll give me the advantage," He says, glancing at the death note for a spilt second, "But I don't have the time to write names down anyways, Dad's returned from his shift, plus, Aya's probably returned with groceries for the month - don't understand why she's so insistent on something like that - but no matter, can't spend to much time writing names, they all must be waiting for me downstairs for dinner." He says, shoving the notebook back into his desk drawer before getting up and making his way downstairs to the dining room.

Downstairs was exactly as he suspected, though they really didn't wait for him, most likely assuming he'd stay in his room for a hour or two. His mom and dad making small talk, Sayu shoving food down her mouth and Ay-...where's Aya? "Light! We've been waiting for you, come sit, I made your favourite today. Can't study well if you don't eat!" His mother said, smiling as she pointed to a seat next to his father. "Thanks mom, but, where's Aya, I thought she was staying at our house for a while." "She said she had important family business that needed her attention, though she left the bags on the kitchen counter." Sachiko said, putting food on Light's plate before he got the chance to sit down.

Light just brushed his suspicions off as he sat next to his father, though he couldn't help but be slightly concerned at her quick strange disappearance. "So, Light, it's been a while since I've asked but how are your studies going?" His father asked him with a tired smile. "Hm? Yeah, I'm doing pretty well in school, I guess. Although, I've been meaning to ask but dad, have you been sleeping enough? You've been looking alot more tired recently." Light questioned out of him, picking at his food, Soichiro sighed, rubbing his temples. "Don't worry, Light. It's just that...well, I'm not able to say too much about the recent case we've been working on, but it's been a tough one." "Hm, well, make sure to take care of yourself dad. I'll be excusing myself to go study, gotta keep those grades up!" A good enough practiced excuse so his family wouldn't suspect his sudden leave. The Kira case must be getting too hard for those old idiots at the ICPO. He truly had nothing to worry about!

(Light Yagami's Pov)
(9:27 PM, I've decided to specify time incase multiple events are happening in the same day)
Light was sitting by his desk, His computer set on top of the table. On it, a compiled set of each and every suspicions the police had to what their ideal suspect could be like. "Heh. Using daddy's high status as chief police, Huh? And that must be the reason why you're so confident?" Ryuk asked, trying very little to hide the condescending tone behind each word. Light rolled his eyes, but nonetheless - still replied, "Why wouldn't I be? It's a piece of cake to hack into dad's computer, after all - we are on a home network. This way, I can easily copy and save the files I need without leaving a trace. Along with the fact that I can keep track of their investigations and where their suspicions are leading to. And speaking of suspicions, isn't that interesting? Of all the suspects, looks like the task force is already suspecting a student of being Kira. I wonder what trace I've left behind that'd make them think like that..."

"They're getting closer Light - I guess that means you're in big, big trouble." "Not if I use the rules of the death note to my advantage," Light counter-argued in a instant to remind Ryuk that he had a Godly weapon on his side. "I've took some time to read most of them, If the cause of death of a person is not specified, that person cause of death will be a heart attack, right? So after writing a specific cause of death, details of the chosen death should be written in the next six minutes and forty seconds." Light inquired, casually looking through the many files of data collected by the police about the Kira case. "Where's your plan going with this Light," Ryuk asked him, intrigued, "tryna out-smart that famous detective?" "Listen, Ryuk, if I write heart attacks as my target's cause of death, then it should be able to allow me to write down all the details I need including time of death afterward in order to clear suspicions." As Light explained how he would be able to confuse not just the task force, not just all those who oppose God -  but L himself. Light's growing pride planted one rooted thought in his mind.

'L, you may have fooled me, but that'll be the first and last time it will happen. Looks like it won't be just Ryuk who's entertained.'

(Aya Fumestu's POV)
(11:10 PM)
The blood on her soft hands was a feeling all too familiar, a shame it wasn't real blood, even if it was, it would have never been good enough for the man that looked down upon her as he always had. How pathetic she was, laying in the puddle of blood next to the long since rotting corpse of one of the many men she would always end up envying. "Haven't you changed since your mother left? Get up and clean yourself up, as much as you do ya still can't clean off her haunting face." Her father glanced at her for a minute before he let out a scoff, fixing his own hair through the reflection of the tears she shed. "You look almost like her, even got the good parts." Her father said, staring down for a second before looking back at her face. What a horrible event she's had to live through. But don't go feeling guilt for her, she's a killer after all, that's what she'd always be, that's what she was born for. To please those above her, a server to the Gods of Death that spared us lucky ones. "You should start coming back home more often, you are weak, just like the rest of your kind, also it makes me seem like a bad father if you spend all your time at the Yagamis like a pitiful orphan! They're sick of you probably."

Aya sighed, nodding her head urgently as she pushed herself from the concrete floor of that disgusting basement, almost slipping on the blood she wasn't sure was the life she'd taken or hers. It'd be cleaned until not a single hint of that man would remain soon. She shivered a bit at that thought like a feeble animal waiting for slaughter. "If you work me so much, the bruises on my hands won't heal! And what about the noise, the others living here will hear it. And what about my entrance exams, if...if I don't take them, Mr Yagami might ask you why. What wil you tell him?" She spoke, a little loudly than usual, a mistake she'd knew would result in punishment. A sound of hand slapping the flesh of her cheek silence even the audience of crickets that chirped outside every window all night, the crackling was but a common sound in the household. A shame the fire wasn't large. "How ignorant are you, first - you speak loudly in a peaceful house to your own father- And second - you waste my time whining like a young child. For all I could care, you can go fail! You will be nothing but a housewife after all, and if not that, then go be a prostitute! That's the only other thing you're good at, aren't ya? These connections are what created us and our earlier generations, Aya. You know that right? And it WILL be what creates out future generations. You want money, don't you?"

Aya couldn't help but let his boring words pass from one ear to another as she held her hand up to her cheek, the only warmth in that cold room. He recited the same unbearable lecture that she was bound to listen to until her old man kicked the bucket. But still - she knew she'd listen. Ever since she was a young dog, she knew that she would die doing this. And she so wanted to enjoy this labour, but it had now become boring. No matter the money, killing the same old pathetic, evil, rich folk will start to bore you. But dogs and cats are too easy, atleast that's what she'd think all those years ago, what made her want more. And the money would be a nice silver spoon for the shit she'd be eating. So she never complained and she always smiled and caressed his ego by gifting him with a deep bow.

"Yeah...sorry." She said, a quiet enough voice that fulfilled his every demand. She slowly walked up the stairs of the flickering basement, turning around to his silhouette and upstairs to wash herself of sweat and dried blood. Behind her, Hikarei floated, a heavy silence between the two that was not uncommon after these training sessions. She never truly believed the man who raised her deserved the term father. He was more of a boss or a customer to her. And Aya knew that man didn't see her as a daughter, he wouldn't treat her like a fool if he did. "What a pain," She murmured in one shaky breath. Too shaky for her pride as she immediatly composed herself enough to speak normally. "What a pain it is to stain your soul with life, life that is not yours." Melancholically she spoke before letting the persona crack as she began to giggle. "I thought of that myself, elegant isn't it?" She spoke with a hint of sarcasm, now to the Shinigami, as she entered the bathroom. Aya knew that the big beast that glared at her from about 4 feet above her would ignore her, but even so, she continued talking to it almost like he was a journal. "It's sucks that killing ain't like the movies, y'know - would be cool to assassinate presidents or Bosses of large businesses." She said, quickly stripping off her uncomfortable and way too traditional Kimono, one that was apparently her mother's, she wished she would remember her name, she'd never be allowed to speak it but it'd be nice to know atleast. Her undergarments soon followed after.

She turned the tap on, and watched as the endless amount of droplets poured out of the shower head and the mirrors fog up, ones that she'd never look at. She outstretched one arm and watched as the clear water turned a swamp-ish red. "Hikarei, one day, someday however many years in the future, I would like to be painted in my own blood, to die quietly, because I know someday, I won't be able to live in a aching body as cruel as the one I have been destined to suffer in." She confided in the Shinigami, though she wasn't going to dwell on her sadness when there was a hot shower waiting in front of her. That's what idiots who have no hope in their lives do, and she DID have hope! And also an unfortunate, lingering thought that wouldn't leave her head. 'Light, the evidence against you is over-bearing, you can't be Kira, there's no way. Soon I'll see your lifespan again and everything will be fine! But no one assumes I'm a killer either. Not even the smartest student in Japan. Maybe we're two sides of the same coin. Or maybe you're a dime and I'm just a penny.'
