Chapter Text

“Please let me through, those are my children!”

Toshinori looks over his shoulder and spots a petite woman with green hair the same shade as the oldest and youngest children in front of him. She has a bag thrown over her shoulder and is on the balls of her feet, trying to get a better look at the children.

“Mom!” Hinata shouts, waving at her. “Let her through, that’s our Mom!”

Celebrity steps out of Mrs. Midoriya’s way, allowing her to make her way over, all while also blocking Director Senju from coming over. Toshinori makes a note to thank the young American once this is done. There is no reason for the Commission to be so pushy at the moment.

“What happened?” Mrs. Midoriya asks, immediately fussing over her children.

“Young Hinata did a very brave thing!” Toshinori says, giving Mrs. Midoriya a wide smile. “She put out the fire caused by a villain attack, but was unfortunately knocked unconscious briefly from the stress of it. I assume,” he adds.

“I overheated myself,” Hinata admits sheepishly. “I should have drawn the heat out of smaller chunks first, not everything at once.”

Mrs. Midoriya takes a deep breath and closes her eyes, obviously trying to calm herself.

“Hinata, is All Might saying that you got involved in a villain fight?”

“Technically I only put out a fire,” Hinata says. She wilts under the look her mother gives her. “I did! I wasn’t gonna to try and fight the villain! I knew I could deal with the fire, and that way no one would be in danger from it. The hero was busy fighting the villain!”

“Sometimes you are too much like your father,” Mrs. Midoriya says under her breath. Her daughter rolls her eyes at her.

“She did an amazing job,” Toshinori says. “According to Celebrity, had she not done so there would have been casualties.” Well, he hadn’t said exactly that, but he could read between the lines. “She’ll have a wonderful future career in heroics!”

“See! All Might says I did the right thing!” Well that’s not exactly what he said but…

“Hinata.” Mrs. Midoriya sighs and shifts her bag.

“The fire would have gotten worse, and we would have all been in possible danger,” the teen says, crossing her arms. “But I dealt with it, and I wasn’t really hurt. I just overheated myself by mistake by putting out too much of the fire at once.”

“Don’t you roast your internal organs when you overheat?” Tenko asks.

“Shut up.”

“Hinata, don’t tell your brother to shut up.”

“Why not?”

Hinata .”

Toshinori bites back a chuckle at the byplay, but also realizes little Izuku hasn’t said anything since he first said ‘hi’. He’s still tucked behind Tenko, looking awed. It is an extremely disconcerting look from a little boy who looks so much like All For One.

And oddly enough, does give him an idea. The trio is determined to be heroes, but have an almost certain connection to All For One. If he can figure out their futures he can find out if they’ll be heroes or villains in the end.

“Mrs. Midoriya? How would you and your children like to visit my agency next week? As a reward for young Hinata’s heroic actions today?”

Mirai should be able to do just that.

Mirai watches, mystified, as Toshinori paces his office. He’s been silent for almost two hours, and he’s getting tempted to call David and see if the scientist could snap Toshinori out of whatever is distracting him. For all he doesn’t like David that much (and it is admittedly due to jealousy over David and Toshinori’s old relationship), the man is good at getting Toshinori out of his own head.

“Toshinori? What’s wrong?” It’s the fifth time he’s asked it in twenty minutes.

“I believe I met All For One’s wife and children today,” Toshinori finally says, making Mirai choke.

“You believe what ?” he asks faintly. That monster could be married and reproduced ?!

“I believe I met his wife and children today,” Toshinori repeats. “While I was in Hosu there had been a fight between a young American hero, Captain Celebrity, and Bearhead. A misaimed attack damaged a gas station and a massive fire started. A teenager with a fire Quirk by the name of Midoriya Hinata got the fire under control. The strength of the fire ended up knocking her out for a time due to overexertion, but she was fine.”

“I arrived after all of this, when the EMTs were checking young Hinata to make sure she was alright. Her younger brothers were with her, Midoriya Tenko and Midoriya Izuku. I decided to speak with both of them, and when I got close enough to fully see young Izuku I realized he looked like a miniature version of All For One. On top of that, according to her, her youngest brother’s Quirk is an almost...benign version of the All For One Quirk,” Toshinori says slowly. “Instead of stealing Quirks, it makes permanent copies.”

Mirai isn’t certain how to respond to that. It certainly does sound like a benign form of All For One Quirk.

“Do you want me to look into how this could have happened? Do a background check on Midoriya Inko to verify she isn’t a villain herself?” Since based on the power levels for at least the girl…

“Please. In the meantime, I did invite them to visit Might Tower. I’d like to request that when they do you use your Quirk on the youngest Midoriya.”

“Not the eldest?”

“No, though with her I need you to look into something else…” Toshinori frowns. “I need you to figure out what the connection could be between Midoriya Inko and Endeavor, since I believe Midoriya Hinata could be his daughter.”

“What?” Mirai asks, gaping at Toshinori. “But isn’t Endeavor married ?”

“He is. And Hinata looked a bit older than his twins, so it is likely that whatever relationship Endeavor and Mrs. Midoriya had would have happened before his marriage.”

“I’ll look into it,” Mirai says, thoughts racing over where to check. The general background check would give him hints on where to look to locate a relationship there (if there had been one). It should also give them a trove of information on All For One.

(“So, Toshinori, I know you didn’t ask me to look further into Midoriya Tenko , but there’s something extremely important you need to know…”)

“Hinata did what ?” Hisashi demands, and Inko can practically see the incredulous look on her husband’s face, even over the phone.

“She interfered in a villain fight,” Inko says, rubbing her eyes. “We went to Hosu for the day, and we were briefly separated when she and the boys went to a comic book store and I went into a lingerie shop. The fight broke out as they were walking, a gas station was destroyed, a fire was started, and Hinata stopped it. The hero couldn’t due to being distracted fighting the villain.”

Captain Celebrity had repeatedly apologized to her over Hinata needing to get involved in the fight. He hadn’t realized how close they’d gotten to the gas station.

“Where was All Might, if he managed to appear fifteen minutes or so later?” Hisashi asks.

“Dealing with another villain a few miles away. He responded to the alert in Hosu after that was finished.” She chews on her lips. “Which was a good thing. For some strange reason the Director for the Hero Commission was there, and he was attempting to speak with Hinata and the boys without me present. Captain Celebrity wouldn’t allow him to do so, but All Might appearing and talking with the kids allowed for me to get there before Director Senju could speak with them.”

Which she is not happy about to begin with. She is unfortunately familiar with the Hero Commission due to her past with Enji and knowing his father Todoroki Ryu, who would have been Director Senju’s predecessor. It’s a minor blessing that it’s not Ryu who still runs the Commission; she’s certain Enji never told his father about Hinata. Not with how poorly they got along.

“Why would the Commission want to speak with a child without her parent present?” Hisashi asks. “It’s not as if they can make her do anything; she’s a child.”

“Supposedly he wanted to scold her over her illegal use of her Quirk,” Inko explains. “Which is possible? But feels like there’s something else going on.” There’s no reason someone as high ranking as the Director would need to do that. “I met Madara a few times when I was dating Enji. He and Saito Hana were Mr. Todoroki’s protegees, and Aoi has a bit of an enmity with Saito.”

Well. ‘ A bit’ may be a polite way of putting it. Sheer loathing may be more accurate.

“So there could simply be a political play going on there if Aoi is technically involved,” Hisashi says. “Either way, for the moment there’s not much we could do there. And you said that All Might invited you and the children to visit his agency?”

“Yes. We’re going to go next week. They’re all very excited,” Inko says. “They’re also very curious about when you’re going to be coming home. This business trip is already going on longer than you said it would.” Again . “The kids miss you.”

“I’m sorry. It should be only another month,” Hisashi says. “Setting up the new office is taking longer than expected, and I’m already a bit worried I’ll need to spend more time here in the States to make sure everything runs smoothly.”

“Of course,” Inko says, barely disguising the bitterness in her voice.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be home soon and I should be able to stay home for a while at least. I love you.”

“I love you too. I’ll let you go so you can sleep. Goodnight Hisashi.”

“Goodnight Inko. Tell the kids I’ll bring them back presents.”

Hisashi barely resists the urge to throw his phone against the wall.

Hinata had interfered in a hero fight. The Hero Commission is looking into his family. All Might has made contact with his family and is most likely going to look into them; there’s no way the buffoon would miss how much Izuku looks like him.

Goddamnit.

He really wishes Hinata would listen to her impulse control.

Nighteye waits patiently at the front desk for the Midoriyas. He is going to play ‘tour guide’ and figure out how to get Mrs. Midoriya to allow him to use his Quirk on her youngest son. Mothers rarely like strangers using their Quirks on their children. He’s of the opinion it would be easier to use his Quirk on Hinata. He could also use it to maybe figure out her connection to Endeavor, since so far he hasn’t found anything. Yes, Midoriya Inko had a previous relationship with Endeavor, but her daughter was born months after Endeavor married Todoroki Rei. It’s possible Endeavor abandoned a pregnant girlfriend, but that’s not in character for the man.

He watches as Mrs. Midoriya walks into the agency entranceway, holding her youngest son’s hand while her older children walk next to her (Tenko) or just behind Izuku (Hinata).

“Mrs. Midoriya? I’m Sir Nighteye, All Might’s sidekick. Please follow me,” he says, smiling slightly at her. “Here are Guest ID badges for you and your children.”

“Of course,” she says, adjusting a bag over her shoulder. “And thank you. Are you going to be who’s showing us around?”

“Yes. I offered to do so when All Might told me that you were visiting. I thought it would be better than one of the younger employees doing it,” he says. “I was also curious about young Hinata’s heroic actions!”

“I saw a fire. I put out the fire,” Hinata says. “Simple.”

Now that the girl is close enough Nighteye can see why All Might could theorize Hinata is Endeavor’s daughter. Her eyes are the same shade of blue as the Flame Hero’s, and with a fire Quirk as powerful as her Starfire is supposed to be, it wouldn’t be too illogic. The issue really is how he cannot locate a paper trail connecting the girl to Endeavor and why Endeavor would abandon a pregnant girlfriend to marry a different woman.

“From what I’ve seen in the reports on the fire it was more than a small, easy to put out thing,” Nighteye says, gesturing for them to follow. “I can only think of a few heroes who could have pulled it out as quickly and safely as you did.”

“Thank you,” she says with a small smile. “But like I said to All Might. It’s what a hero should do, and I plan on being a hero some day.”

“We’re all going to be heroes!” Izuku pipes up. “I think we should all be a team!”

“It’ll take a fews years for that Ku,” Tenko teases. “You’re still a bitty baby.”

“And you’re like six, hush,” Hinata snarks. “I’m the only one of us who can start at UA anytime soon.”

Izuku pouts at both of them, green eyes going huge in a way that makes Nigheye’s heart melt. He’s an absolutely adorable child, who just manages to have an absolutely unfortunate father.

“Children,” Mrs. Midoriya says warningly. “Stop.”

“Sorry.”

“Sorry.”

“Are we going to see All Might?” Izuku asks.

“Yes. After I give you the tour he’s going to come speak with you and let you ask any questions you want to,” Nighteye says. “I also put together what I’ll call ‘goodie bags’ with All Might merchandise.”

All three give him starry eyed looks. Mrs. Midoriya just sighs and shakes her head slightly.

“Now, follow me and we’ll begin.”

Izuku can’t believe they’re actually here. That they’re actually being shown around All Might’s agency by All Might’s sidekick and that they’re going to get to talk to All Might again!!! He bounces slightly, clutching the straps of his little backpack. He has a small notebook in it and he wants to write in it but he doesn’t want to slow down to do it.

“Are you alright?” Nighteye asks him, pausing in explaining a past fight between All Might and an American villain known as Bedlam.

“Why didn’t All Might ask Hurricane for help if Hurricane was there?” Izuku asks. “Wouldn’t that have made more sense?”

“Ah, but he didn’t know Hurricane was actually there! Bedlam’s Quirk made it hard for All Might to decipher what was real and what was fake, so he couldn’t tell that it really was Hurricane trying to get his attention,” Nighteye explains. “So yes, while Hurricane’s Quirk would have been better than All Might’s, due to the confusion Hurricane instead pulled away and prevented possible civilian casualties and made sure to minimize the aftermath of the fight.”

Izuku nods his head aggressively and he really wishes he could write this all down. Then Hinata winks at him and shows him her phone; she’s recording everything and Hinata is the best

“The fight against Bedlam was one of the last major villain fights All Might had while living in the United States. He returned to Japan at age twenty three, making Number One by the time he was twenty five, a position he’s retained ever since,” Nighteye says. “And I foresee him keeping it for a while.”

“You’re that confident in him? No worries that say Endeavor will rise above him?” Hinata asks, which is weird. Izuku is pretty sure Hinata doesn’t like Endeavor.

“My Quirk, Foresight allows me to see an hour into anyone’s future. I’ve used it in the past on All Might and I’ve seen that he’ll remain the Symbol of Peace for years to come. You cannot mention that in public, for the record. My Quirk is a highly private matter due to the work I do for All Might,” he adds.

“You can see an hour of anyone’s future any time?” Tenko asks. “So like, you could use it as a sort of cheat code? Already know the moves of the people you’re going against?”

“Something like that,” Nighteye says with a nod.

“That’s so cool!” whispers Izuku, barely resisting the urge to ask to Copy it. Mom has drilled into him to not Copy people’s Quirks without asking, and if Nighteye’s Quirk is supposed to be secret it means he can’t Copy it.

“Would you like to see me use it?” he offers. “I can only use it once every twenty four hours, but if one of you’d be interested in it…”

Izuku goes to open his mouth and go ‘me! Me!’ but Mom cuts him off.

“I’m not sure that would be wise,” she says.

“I’m curious,” Hinata says. “Mom, I’m thirteen. How about we try it with me?” she asks hopefully. “As a sort of reward for what I did in Hosu?”

Mom sighs.

“Please?”

Mom frowns for a moment, and Izuku doesn’t really know what she’s thinking, but she sighs again.

“You can use it on Hinata,” she says firmly. “But not either of the boys. They’re too young.”

“Of course. Miss Midoriya, I’m going to touch your hand and then meet your eyes. My eyes will shift colors and look a bit unusual, but that’s just due to the effect of my Quirk. You will see nothing unusual yourself, and if we break eye contact, I will no longer see your future,” Nighteye explains, and Izuku’s jealous.

Hinata nods, and Nighteye touches her hand. Izuku gasps as he watches Nighteye’s eyes change, and it looks so cool and he wonders what else could be going on.

Nighteye breaks eye contact with Hinata and smiles.

“I saw you and Tenko as heroes,” he says. “Fighting alongside each other. It looks like you’ll have a bright future ahead of you, and even though I didn’t see young Izuku I assume it’ll be the same for him.”

He opens his mind to say something else, and then All Might strides into the room.

“Ah! Good, All Might is here. Now time for some stories from him, and then you can ask him questions.”

“I saw Hinata and Tenko fighting alongside you against a villain,” Mirai says once the Midoriyas have left. “I couldn’t tell who the villain was , but I could see them acting as backup for you. There was a third person acting as backup, but I couldn’t fully see them nor did I recognize what little I could see.”

“So you don’t think the Midoriya children will follow in their father’s footsteps?”

“No. I’d say we’re looking at a trio more like their uncle.”

“Thank god.”

“You know though, you should probably tell Gran Torino about this. Especially due to Tenko.”

“...”

“And if you don’t, I will.”

“...Let me get my phone.”

Cover art from the most excellent fruitloopchan!
Also! Look it's the Midoriya children as children!

---And here’s the next chapter, and start of the second half of what I’m mentally calling the ‘Childhood arc’! Yes, technically for all my fics there are ‘arcs’, I’m just not prone to noting which arcs have happened in them.
---Fun fact; Todoroki Ryu, aka the asshole who keeps being referenced in CWEL and now in Build Yourself Up (Don’t Let Them Break You Down), originates in my notes and plans for this verse. We will in fact be seeing him sooner, rather than later here.
---Will we get more backstory about just what the hell is actually up with Saito Hana and Monoma Aoi’s dislike for each other? Yeah probably.
----Nighteye, just realize already that it’s because Endeavor is an asshole, please just make the leap.

If anyone's interested, here's my Discord!

Thoughts? And yes, the plan is for this to be a larger AU.
