Chapter 17: ruby red

Chapter Text

"hey, zukun, how did you end up in here? actually! i have a few bones to pick you fucken nerd first before we even touch that damn topic!" izuku fliched and withered away into his bed. katsuki was here – though, thankfully with masaru who could keep the boy in check. but, even he could tell the look in marasu eyes had the same questions as katsuki, he just much rather not touch on the topics if it meant hurting others in the process. besides, the man was more content with knowing izuku was okay and safe in the hospital rather than why they – more specifically, why only izuku had lost contact – with them.

izuku doesn't blame the bakugos for being upset, worried or any of that. in fact, he was surprised they came to see him so late at night. maybe not as much as mitsuki, she was like a second – or well, now a fourth mother to him if he really wanted to add nemuri and yu to the list. but mitsuki, she was second in line just under his own mother – she always was there for him during hard times and always kept a smile on his face. it wasn't too surprising she was here, and it wasn't too surprising that masaru was here too. but katsuki? that was a surprise. izuku would think the blond would hold a permanent hatred towards him for him pushing him away.

"katsuki, izuku is sick, tired and had a long day. you know we can't just hound him with questions." masaru spoke in a quiet and gentle voice that held a stern tone to it. katsuki scoffed as he rolled his eyes to what his dad said. he wanted answers to why the fuck izuku thought he could suddenly disappear, without answering calls, texts, nothing. then, auntie inko tells him that izuku wants nothing to do with him and to go away! it was bullshit, of course katsuki knew that – he could see the feral look in the green eyes while her scent smelt like burning ash. she was clearly pissed during the time she told katsuki to stay away, and katsuki doesnt know why but he does know the last attempt he tried to get in contact with izuku had failed.

katsuki doesn't even see izuku in school no more – which is strange. he wasn't pulled out. he asked the teachers and they told him that he was just skipping and missing his classes. it was so unlike the nerd to even miss one class; izuku wouldn't even come late to class. so for him to miss months upon months of class and to not be seen or heard from by others then to finally be seen but it's in a fucking hospital – is concerning.

"yeah no, he can talk for a few more minutes. where the fuck have you been, izuku? and don't you dare go sputtering out some bullshit because i know when you are lying." katsuki firey ruby red eyes bore into izukus viridian nervous green eyes. every twitch and little shake izuku would make, katsuki caught it. he would only give off a hasher and more intimidating glare than the last. izuku knew what katsuki was saying – even without words. the look in his eye told him to tell him everything and do not even attempt to lie to him or else he'd regret it. he could even see the specs of concern screaming at him to tell him that he would be okay – that nothing too bad happened to him.

"i- i.. really don't know where to start kacchan.. mom took my phone and i couldn't get in contact with anyone.. there's one reason why havent talked even talked to you. it wasn't because i didn't want to, mainly because couldnt." izuku could see the shift in the ruby red eyes of katsuki. on one hand, he seemed more relieved that izuku wasnt going out of his way to ignore him, on the other, he was confused. confused on why inko would take izukus phone away, at least take it away for so long.

"the fuck? why would auntie take away your phone and not allow contact with anyone?" katsuki growled as the fire in his eyes soon took over the confusion. he was upset that inko was the one who was keeping izuku away from him – he could see that clearly now. she didn't want him around him, or anyone for that matter. masaru placed a hand on his son shoulder in attempt of calming him. the elder mans citrus and nutmeg scent soon filled the room, seeing the two upset teens – one more than the other.

"let's take a breath, katsuki. if inko had took away izukus phone and restricted contact, its for a good reason, yes?" the blond whipped his head up to his dad as he gave a piercing glare. it was not for a good reason, he didn't know why she was doing it exactly but he knew it wasn't good. the way his hairs stood on the back of his neck while his wolf went wild at the fact that woman was doing something to keep izuku away from people, was enough to say it was bad.

izuku wasnt ever at school. izuku wasnt ever outside the house anymore. izuku was gone so long he was just forgotten about most people at school. the weeks only continued as the teachers finally gave up and stopped calling for him on attendance. katsuki did hope to see his best friend again, but he didn't want to see him in a hospital. he didn't want to see him hooked up to an iv drip while he had on an heart monitor, beating at every second to show he was at least alive. he didn't want to see izuku look close to death – with his deathly pale complex and his once cubby cheeks, now sunken in. izuku was always thin and always lacked muscles – but katsuki looking at him now, he looked sickly thin. it scared him. this wasn't how he wanted to see his best friend – this wasn't how he was supposed to look.

and his scent was off, he couldn't pin point why. izuku presented, he could tell that much. he didn't know when – and he didn't know how long its been since he presented but last he saw him, izuku wasn't an omgea. but, his scent, it smelt sweet like chocolate and vanilla swirl mix. yet, there was something that was artificial about his smell that made his stomach churn. katsuki wondered if his dad could smell the faint artificial smell, it was almost hard not to notice now that katsuki senses it. but, it was buried under all the layers of sweet and sugary, that he was sure the old man would ignore it.

but he couldn't just ignore it, even if he tried to ignore it. which, for a second he did. but his mind would only race faster as his wolf felt like it was trying to claw itself out to get to izuku. he didn't know why this was happening – nothing like this ever happened to him before and he hated it. katsuki hated the feeling of dread that pooled in his stomach. he hated the wariness he felt when he thought about inko. he hated the whole situation.

"let's change topics, izuku. ive got another question." katsuki says after along few minutes of tense silence. he needed to know why izuku was here – forget his previous anger. there is no damn reason for why izuku should look neglected. his mother has no reason to cut him away from school – unless she suddenly wanted to start to homeschool him. which then, katsuki wants to know why the fuck would inko still not allow izuku around no one? suspicious bitch.

"why are you in here? who allowed you to get like this?"
