Chapter Text
You did this to me.
Padme stood before him, eyes blazing to match the hazy sky and flowing lava of a planet he tried so hard to forget.
You killed me. You were supposed to protect me.
I tried to save you, he would say, and she would only laugh, high and cold. Her eyes would burn through him as she sunk into the molten waves.
The other dreams were worse.
Those were the dreams where Padme would cradle his cheek with warm hands, press her forehead against his with all the love that had slipped through his fingers.
Anakin.
Anakin Skywalker is dead, he’d say, but there was no force behind the words. She’d only smile sadly, in that way she did when Anakin Skywalker had to leave Coruscant for another mission.
Come back to me, she’d whisper. You know I fought for the light. Come back.
I can’t.
She’d pull away and meet his eyes and something fractured in his chest every time he beheld the love in her gaze. Her hands were so warm against his cheek. He leaned into it, desperate to hold onto this last bit of contact before he was thrown back into reality. Into the suit.
Padme’s hands were cold, now.
