Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

A handsome not-so-stranger walked into his shop.

He paid for two cups of tea but only drank one, saying he owed him the other. Obi-Wan replied that he owed him a mop of the floor as well, but since he's still hurt he'd let it slide. Cody offered dinner instead.

Conversations, regular visits while he recovered, all leading to a stolen kiss over steaming cups of tea one Wednesday night after the shop had closed.

It's incredible, and it makes Obi-Wan smile against Cody's lips, the younger man pressing his forehead into Obi-Wan’s shoulder, shy.

"Was that ok?" Asks Cody.

"More than ok."

And something nice begins. Something that moves rather slowly at just the right pace. Grows as Cody's leg heals and Obi-Wan tends to his store.

It's peaceful as he hands a tea box to his regular and coos at her new baby. "That was adorable. I barely remember when my brothers were that young," Cody says after she has left.

"I never met my little brother when he was that young, we took him in when he was nine."

Cody's eyebrow raises, "You never told me your brother was adopted."

"You never told me you had more than one." He answered with a little sass but no bite.

"Yeah, I guess we haven't really talked about our families." Cody sighs and points at his leg. "Mine can get messy."

“Why’s that?” He really wanted to learn more about Cody, they’d been getting to know each other well and this isn’t a topic they touch on a lot, after four months it seems like the right time to start.

“Well, the powers make it a touchy subject,” he crossed his arms, “Not to mention the constant danger of missions and such. “ he said gesturing to his leg.

Obi-Wan hums then laughs, "You know, for a second there I completely forgot you are a superhero."

The comment makes Cody's nose scrunch and he hides the action behind his cup of tea which Obi-Wan knows is empty but chooses not to say anything.

"Don't call me that, I like you."

"You do?" Cody tilts his head back, looking at the ceiling and avoiding eye contact in a display of shyness that reminds him of their first kiss. "You look good in a mask, I think."

“You’re into the mask?” He asks, leaning closer. Probably faster than he realizes.

“And the silly spandex too,” Their noses brush. “Glory.”

Cody leans away letting out a loud laugh, Obi-Wan chases his lips and they kiss as best as they can with a broad smile in the way.

Obi-Wan goes home that night giddy. The love blooming between him and Cody makes him regress to a 15-year-old with butterflies in their stomach, damn the fact he fought a man who could shoot electricity out of his hands on a semi-regular basis.

(How he did this Obi-Wan had no idea, considering he didn’t know what Cody’s powers even were and when he asked him, he laughed and said he wouldn’t tell.)

He was laying on the couch looking at the ceiling and biting his lip like the lovesick fool he was when he heard the door open.

He sat upright to greet the newcomer, stopping in his tracks when he saw the state he was in.

“Anakin, not again!” His brother had blood all over his face and long hair.

“Yes, again.” Anakin sighed and put down his backpack, “Bathroom?”

“Absolutely, you’re not putting another stain on the carpet.”

They made their way into the bathroom in a routine that had no business being this familiar. Obi-Wan was starting to think this is just something he did for the people he loved.

Anakin stuck his head in the shower, washed his dirty head and turned to Obi-Wan who was holding up a towel for him. He tended to the medium gash on his forehead and patted his shoulder to signal that he was done but held him down when he tried to get up. “It wasn’t just a scratch this time, you have got to be more careful with those guys.”

“I know, I think they´re becoming resistant to my compulsions, I used to be able to just tell them to leave. I need to figure out a new approach.” He tried to get up again but sat back when Obi-Wan pushed him down by the shoulder. He knew perfectly well Anakin could get free whenever but he stayed to placate the older man even if he was refusing to look him in the eye.

“What you need to do is stop picking fights with a guy that can turn his fists to rock.”

“He was harassing a girl! What did you want me to do, leave her?” He made eye contact then and Obi-Wan sighed, taking advantage of his temporary height to hug Anakin’s head like when he was little.

“You did the right thing,” Anakin muttered a thanks against his chest and his shoulders untensed, hoping he understood how much he worried about him. Obi-Wan hummed, “Anakin, I think there’s someone I’d like you to meet.”

Anakin leaned back to stare at him with one raised eyebrow. “Should I be concerned? Are you gonna introduce me to a therapist?”

“I would, but you’d compel them to leave you alone when they ask you talk about feelings.” Obi-Wan laughed, “No, this is- I’ve… been seeing someone for a couple of months now, “ Anakin recoiled and sat up suddenly. “And I think you’d get along and it’s the right time for you to meet him.”

“Shut the fuck up, really?!”

“Language.”

“Absolutely, I gotta meet this guy, bring him to dinner. What’s his name?” his eyes widened, smiling brightly. “I have to tell Ahsoka, can I tell Ahsoka?”

“Yes, you can tell Ahsoka, and his name is Cody.” Obi-Wan smiled as the younger man ran past him out of the bathroom to grab his phone and send a message to Ahsoka sharing the news and cackling like a maniac. Obi-Wan briefly felt bad for the neighbors who already kind of hate them, then turned around to tidy up.

As he stayed putting back the contents of the house medkit (which were rather impressive for simple household first aid) he wondered how the hell he was gonna pitch that to Cody.

Notes:

This work is (not so) briefly paused! So sorry! Google docs deleted all my fic documents and it set me back immensely, not only in what I had written, but mentally and emotionally as a writer. That, and I needed a break from Codywan, but I'm not done with these two I promise.
