Summary
“What’s going to happen?” Peter whispers softly to his mother once they are alone again.
Mary cups the boy’s face in her hands. For ten years she was able to keep her son away from the life of criminals and psychopaths. After she fled, Tony put in a rule that all hospitals must keep children in custody until a DNA test is completed. There was no way Mary could sneak Peter out.
“He is going to come. I’m sure he will have a few Avengers with him. They will probably separate us.”
Peter grabs her hands, “I won’t let them do that.”
“Peter” Mary leans forward, placing her forehead on his. “Do not fight him. We are both going to do what he instructs. That is the only way to get through this. I…I’m sure he won’t allow us to see each other for a long time. Definitely not until he thinks we are compliant. If we just do what he wants, the sooner we will see each other again. Do you understand?”
The thirteen-year-old nods his head, again allowing tears to flow. “I love you mom.”“I love you too.”
The sound of the door opening causes the duo to freeze. Mary’s blood feels like ice when she hears an all too familiar voice taunt “Daddy’s home.”

"Why South Korea, anyway?" he had even asked his mother that morning, his tone tight with annoyance. "And why this old-fashioned place?"
Jeonju's sleepy part of town, with its clinging kimchi smell, felt worlds away from the lively cities and Toronto. The family's move to the old Jeonju house inherited from his Korean grandparents (thanks for the real estate, halmeoni and harabeoji, less thanks for the location) happened despite his father having lived in Toronto since college, making Korea mostly for brief family trips.
As the moving truck shuddered to a stop, a boy with ink-black hair watched Till's family unload, then approached Till with an oddly formal enthusiastic handshake.
"Hi," the boy's voice announced, friendly and loud, like heralding the arrival of a circus. "I'm Ivan."
Till's glance flickered down to the offered hand, then back to Ivan's face, his expression flat, conveying the approximate enthusiasm of someone whose phone battery just died.
"Till," he replied curtly.
OR
Through Till's VIEW, he understands the world, but Ivan is the VANE that makes his feelings change course.
