Summary
After a long time spent out of touch, Olivia Benson hears that Rafael Barba is back living in New York. She finds out that he has renovated a brownstone in Brooklyn, where he now resides with his dog, Bruno. Olivia finds her curiosity piqued.
Following a chance encounter at a choir service, Noah seems eager to welcome Rafael back into both of their lives. Amanda and Carisi both offer their support and encouragement, and Olivia soon finds herself reconnecting with Rafael.
Gradually, they become closer and she lets herself begin to imagine a new life they could share together, as a couple. As they grow closer, however, Elliot Stabler makes a reappearance, still carrying a torch for Olivia.
This is a story with a Barba/Benson endgame perspective.

This has been sitting in my google docs for a very, very long time, pretty much the way it's being posted. It originally wasn't supposed to end here, but I've never had the ambition to finish writing the next scene - the actual photography. The mapping of her scars, so to speak. But the truth is, I'm just really tired of writing about them fighting and reconciling, yet I can't seem to get past the way it's (so far) been left in canon. Looking back at this WIP, I think it stands alright the way it is - another fix-it scene, really. They can go so many places (emotionally, romantically, physically) once they've simply fixed what they broke, and those places are so much more fun to write about.

Sometimes I get requests for plots that seem so out of character, that initially I think "I can't make that work." But, my brain is stubborn, and I like the challenge of trying to make an OOC plotline feel plausible. This was a request for Benson catching Barba, uh, pleasuring himself - and vice-versa, and at first I wasn't sure I could make either version work. This is what I came up with, hopefully it feels true to the characters. These two chapters are not a continuation, but rather alternate versions of the trope.
