Dice-RPG worlds
The stories here focus on tabletop dice-RPGs. Some are specific (e.g.: D&D or WH40K), some are only aimed in a game's basic direction without specific target (e.g.: could be D&D, could be PFRPG). All occur within the larger Icewall meta-setting.
The fantasy worlds are mostly in a general region far to the west-northwest of Earth 1 (Orion Earth), though they can occur elsewhere, and that region isn't exclusively fantasy. Similarly, sci-tech game worlds (such as Car Wars) tend to be generally to the south-southeast (Space Opera game worlds are fairly limited to within the TARDIS-like expanse of the Galactic Disc world-pond, to the southeast), and psionics/chi/etc. tend to be vaguely northeasterly.
The Icewall map will give you a better visual feeling for the distances and locations involved.

Summary
A job performed is worthy of compensation, though pro bono is always an option — but even then, resources are required.
Though told from the uncertain perspective of some imagined (N)PC contemplating the problems of life in any story world (and although I get the impression of it being more fit for a D&D type place than most others, it would probably fit in most), this piece just might serve better as part of the Worldbuilding Meta collection.

Summary
A tale retold a thousand times is still as sweet, and Beata, a wretch with no past and no future, pressed into bringing Eottinvöllr's (/ˈjœtunː-ˌvœlːr̩/ [Jötunn-field or -meadow], her village) tribute to Óæskilegastur — the Ogre in the hills — finds that friendship, hope, and love can blossom in the most unexpected places.
Though not overtly present in the story, I picture the events as unfolding within a generic 1e or 2.x D&D world (or a mild variant, since Óæskilegastur is smarter and very slightly more civilized than D&D Ogres) with a nod to the Brothers Grimm. Shrek isn't an inspiration, though I can see some parallel themes (hard to avoid). If you like this story, you'd likely love Mary Gentle's Grunts. (I might need to expand on this story with a little twist of That time I got reincarnated as a Slime).

Summary
A peaceful night on watch for our half-Tabaxi heroine, soaring far above the fungal canopy: life can be good, even in a world of shadows — but what will come of a mysterious map discovered while vacationing is another matter entirely.
Mostly T or even G (it's basically a D&D game), but there are definitely very clearly M adult and grimdark elements; not explicit, but not teeny-bopper: just PG-13 as far as actual “adult” activity, though firmly R in terms of some atmosphere and slightly gritty violence.
The endnote lists 22 legally free RPG sources.

Summary
When worlds collide and the walls of creation shake, Hermione and Harry find themselves knocked loose from their comfortable Hogwarts, landing in the midst of a zombocalypse. Joining forces with Takagi Saya, the bossy science genius, and a doting Tanuki-girl named Iwatani Raphtalia, they brave what lies ahead of them. In a world stripped of its petrochemicals and magical energies, with lost civilizations and ancient evils rising once more from the shadows, our party finds other things on their minds — namely: one another's groins and other fun bits. 😉 …and a LOT of food.
