Alex and Willie really aren't meant to meet each other.
Their first meeting is an avalanche of coincidences, of stuff that really shouldn't have happened. Everything about their first encounter is a situation that was a breath away from not happening. Alex thinks about it a lot, when he can't sleep or when he feels painfully alone, remembering Willie's laugh and his big, daring smile.He's heard the saying so much, it's engrained in his memory.
