Summary
Just because Kaz Brekker is the new king of Ketterdam doesn't mean that there aren't people gunning for his crown. Jordie's about to get a taste of the brutal side of the city, first hand.
This IS part of a series, and I would strongly recommend reading the previous part first!

Summary
“Mr. Brekker, sit and join us.”
Inej’s mother is as short and lean as her daughter, her thick black hair streaked with chunks of silver and white, caught in a long braid down her back. Her eyes are dark and wide, and her mouth is steady. When Kaz doesn't immediately join them at the table, she crosses her arms and raises an expectant eyebrow.
To his right, he hears Inej stifle a snicker into her hand as her eyes flicker between her mother and Kaz.
Amara Ghafa is not in the least bit intimidated by Kaz Brekker, or his reputation, or his fine dark suits.
She looks pointedly at the seat next to Inej. “Join us for dinner, Mr. Brekker.”---
kaz meets the inlaws, drinks tea, marries inej twice, and (maybe) makes a joke.

Summary
All the times Zoya Nazyalensky felt like murdering Kaz Brekker and the one time she felt something scarily similar to kinship.
"Zoya was about to strangle the insufferable boy standing in front of her, and she was going to do it without using her powers, so much so were her murderous thoughts. Who did he think he was? The perpetual unbothered, yet smug expression on his face was making it really hard."

Summary
Anika glances at Inej again, takes in the sheet of long, black hair that clung loosely around her bronzed collarbones, the wide brown eyes that were far too gentle for the Barrel, the simple grace with which she held her fork.
If this is what Kaz Brekker liked in a woman, Anika doesn’t think anyone else would ever stand a chance.
--
Or, the five times someone realizes that Kaz has ever deepening feelings for Inej, and the one time he realizes it for himself.

Summary
The last thing Kaz Brekker had expected to see when he opened the door to his office in the Slat was his dead brother standing on his threshold. Anika stood off to the side of the landing, lightly cringing, obviously waiting for the wrath of Dirtyhands to rain down on her for bringing him a visitor he had neither expected nor vetted.
Jordie Rietveld stood in the doorway panting lightly from exertion, nervousness oozing from every pore in his body, but with his back ramrod straight. “I need your help,” he said.
Kaz was tempted to slam the door in his face and lay down in his bed to sleep off whatever hallucinogenic concoction the Black Tips had managed to slip into his coffee that morning. Maybe Jesper had a point about him needing to catch more sleep.
...
Or, the one where the rumors of Jordie Rietveld's death have only been somewhat exaggerated.Series

Summary
“So, yes.” Kaz said. “It is a good idea to collect in the Barrel. Merchers don’t care about some puerile charity project, but the Barrel is built of survivors. It has a very long memory. Say some jumped-up kid pinches some kruge from them. When he comes back to his boss, who lost his girl and his Da and his best friend in the Queen’s Lady, and presents him with money that’s meant to be funding a memorial for them? Them, the people who never get a scrap of respect, who were left to die in the streets? That kid will be lucky if he escapes with both of his hands.”
--
or: on the 10 year anniversary of the queen's lady plague, the holy ghezen health institute aim to erect a memorial for the victims, but they struggle to find the funds. kaz is selfish in a selfless way.
and thanks to some sleuthing from wylan, jesper finds out who jordie is.

Summary
"I want them to tell the truth of it all. The Wraith and Sankta Inej are the same, driven by her own past to end the slave trade. Dirtyhands is not a demon, there is no cruel King of Ketterdam, just a man who would do whatever it takes to bring his justice upon the world."
“But those stories aren’t simple or easy for those who put everything into the Saints to know. You know as well as I do that the Saints weren’t all good, that they were living and breathing long before they were put into red books of religion.”

Summary
Of course he had nothing to offer. No clever scheme, no plot. He was out of moves. “Zoya-” he said quietly, stepping closer. “Please.” His pleading voice seemed to have caught her off guard, since for a second her stern expression wavered. “Don’t make this hard for me,” she muttered, shaking her head. “I’ll take the antidote, and all will be fine.” “What if its not?” He didn’t dare to think of it. Of the consequences. Zoya was silent for a moment. “Then I suppose we find out whether Nina will forever be the only Grisha who survived a dose of jurda parem.”

Summary
“It’s a contract,” he said. “You should know all the details before you sign your life away.”
“For heaven’s sake. I’m not signing my life away.”
“When you get married, it might be difficult to annul if you’ve still got a legal Kerch-”
“When I get married?” she shot back challengingly. “To who?”
“I don’t know. That fire-tongued revolutionary who writes you poetry and will make you a new world. The Kaelish tavern maid who always pours you a free beer in her bar while you sing about the plight of the repressed. Someone hopelessly moon-eyed and optimistic, who thinks the world shits rainbows and who knows what you’re worth.”
“You, Kaz Brekker,” she finally sighed, “are a hell of a lot dumber than they say you are.”Series
