He heard both of their screams over the sounds of the wolves. He felt the way Wei Ying trembled, hands almost painfully tightening their hold on Lan Zhan’s neck, refusing to let go, to let the wolf have access to the precious skin.
A wolf jumped on top of them, pressing them both down onto the forest floor.
This is it, Lan Zhan thought, refusing to close his eyes, forcing himself to keep his gaze open, eyes locked onto Wei Ying’s.

Lan Wangji sits up fully now, only to find Wei Wuxian lounging at the foot of the bed in an informal robe. There’s a flickering projection hovering above his hand: hazy, but unmistakable.
There he is. Lan Wangji. On a table. Disheveled. Glowing faintly with spiritual energy, face as serene as ever except for his flushed ears. Yelling something about "devotion unspoken is cowardice" while trying to pull a jade ring off his finger.

Jiang Wanyin had claimed Wei Wuxian left when they were sleeping, that they had planned on going back to Lotus Pier, to fight against the Wen stronghold that was there, to reclaim the bodies of Jiang Fengmian and Yu Ziyuan - and Wei Wuxian had fled, run, disappeared, vanished.
He claimed that he woke up, and Wei Wuxian was gone, not a single trace of him in the space they had found to sleep in.
Immediately, others were giving Jiang Wanyin their condolences for having such a disobedient disciple, for Wei Wuxian fleeing in the night after everything he had caused, leaving the aftermath to be faced alone by Jiang Wanyin.
