Will Graham knows who his alpha is. Or rather he knows what his alpha is called. Discovering the truth in one Hannibal Lector was the award at the end of his long search, but now he just has to figure out how to break it to Hannibal that
(a) they are meant to be and Hannibal is going to bite, knot, and breed Will.
(b) that the reason they are meant to be is because Hannibal is the Chesapeake Ripper. He had expected the Ripper as his mate, Hannibal was a bonus.
(c) that while Hannibal feels that he’s been molding Will into a perfect picture of his best self, Will has been planning the rest of their lives.

Regret is not something Dr. Hannibal Lecter is accustomed to feeling, but it struck him the first night that Will Graham was unable to meet him at his usual appointment time due to his arrest for the copycat killings. After the sick man's escape from his medical transport, an opportunity arises for Hannibal--one where he is able to clear Will's name and shift his plans from trapping the profiler behind bars in order to preserve his own freedom to one where he can continue to foster a deep rooted codependency that would ensure Will's inability to leave him, even if he were to learn the truth of who Hannibal really is.

Will Graham died that night in Hannibal's kitchen, though Hannibal is unaware of this result. As Will figures out that he is in fact dead, and is now a ghost, he resolves to track down Hannibal in Italy and haunt him for the rest of his life. Yet when he and Hannibal are reunited, Hannibal cannot initially tell that Will is already dead.
Then the unexpected happens. They continue to fall deeper in love, increasingly distressed when they realize they cannot feel the other's touch. The two men must tackle what it means to die, to live, and to fall in love- and how they can do that together, or not. As they both ache and yearn for each other, murder and tableaus ensue as Hannibal, much like Icarus, relentlessly pursues the Man Who Was The Sun.
