But when he accidentally stops one from escaping an abusive master, Hiccup makes the split-decision to buy this foreign outsider – a mesmerizing youth with strange snowflake eyes and an inability to speak Norse.
Meanwhile, Jack doesn't know how long he'll have to wait for the other Guardians to find him.
Probably a while since Pitch not only turned Jack mortal and messed up his magic, but sent him BACK IN TIME. It's been a disaster thus far, but perhaps this new 'owner' will be the turning point.
And if Hiccup and the other Vikings are unaware that Jack can understand and speak their language?

Still holding the shepherd's crook, there he sat, cross-legged, on top of what looked like a fortress of crates and baskets. Hiccup remembered seeing the rich blue from the boy’s cloak stand out amongst the dark leathers and faded linens of the market crowd. Flipping off his woolly hood, an uneven toothy smile framed by spikes of brown and white hair. It was him, the starboy.

Summary
When Hiccup kills his first dragon, he knows his life is going to change - he just thought it would be for the better, at the time. Instead, he finds himself as a passenger in his own body, sharing a mind with the dragon he shot down, burdened with the knowledge that the more time that passes, the more he'll lose himself, becoming one with the Night Fury.
When Jack kills his first dragon, it's a complete accident. An act of desperation: a sword through a wing and a dragon left to die alone in the woods. He didn't even know the dragon had died until its mind slammed into his, wrenching a new form from his body in the middle of his village, nearly killing them in the process. After coming to terms with the Light Fury sharing his mind, he returns home, only to learn that not everyone is quite so accepting.
With no home to go back to, Jack wanders the skies by day and the islands by night. He comes across an isolated island of dragon killers with more than enough to keep him busy, where the chief's son is kind to the Light Fury by day, and where Jack finds a downed dragon who needs his help by night.

It had actually been a long time since Hiccup had thought about how he would die.
When he was young, every sunrise was another gamble to see if he would get himself eaten by a dragon or somehow manage to fall off one of Berk’s many cliffs.
Perhaps Winter would finally choose to break his wiry body with illness or he would catch an unfortunate stray battle axe.
Yet here he was, 21, about to die in the wrong place (not a bad age to reach in the Archipelago when you’re Hiccup Haddock, let's be honest).But that was the thing wasn’t it? Hiccup made plenty of marks all in the wrong places.
What if one of those marks was in the future? On one unsuspecting spirit’s affections?
