Summary
Zuko had never excelled at anything. Azula was a prodigy. Uncle always knew what to say. And Father... Father was strong, iron-like. But Zuko had only ever been good at surviving. Putting one foot in front of the other in a grim show of stubborn determination, gritting his teeth and bearing it. Survival was all he had ever been taught. He knew how to do it. So when he was kidnapped by the Southern Water Tribe, he expected to fight as he always had. He didn’t expect to be taught instead how to live.
In a warring land, the Water Tribe forgave the enemy in an act of defiance. For this, he was torn from them, and this time, his wounds won't heal so easily.
Forced back into nothing but survival, the last person Zuko expected to see was Hakoda's son. Hakoda was a promise of safety. The relentless blue of Sokka’s eyes was a promise of happiness. Zuko could have both if he just reached out his hands, but he found them clutching into fists. After all, he’d been burned one too many times.
But hey, at least between Hakoda and Sokka, Zuko could appreciate the family resemblance of pure, asinine stubbornness.

Summary
At eleven years old, Zuko was exiled from the Fire Nation and declared nameless. All proof of his existence was destroyed. And then, it was as if Zuko never existed at all.
At sixteen, Lee was imprisoned and sent to the Boiling Rock Penitentiary to serve a life sentence. There, he finds a new family and allows himself to hope for a glimpse of happiness. But even that hope runs dry.
At twenty-two, Lee is once again nameless in the Earth Kingdom. If the Fire Nation finds him, he fears execution. He has nowhere to go and nowhere to hide. Nowhere, except the Southern Water Tribe.
Set in a modern world where the Fire Nation has conquered and colonized the Air Nomads, the Water Tribes, and most of the Earth Kingdom. But things are shifting, the world is changing, and rebellion is a fire that won't be snuffed out easily. And when this fire spreads, it may be the Fire Nation that is on the losing side of this hundred-year war.

Summary
And then she dreams of Zuko, of getting to him too late. Murmured words too quiet to decipher, amber eyes going glassy, star-shaped wound hot to the touch.
She doesn't wake with shaking breaths or with fingers clutching at the sheets; she doesn't wake with a pained yelp, or even with tears on her eyes. No, all she has in the wake of her nightmares is the dull, hazy silence of morning. Katara opens her eyes without movement after nightmares, staring up at the ceiling with her heart pounding so hard that it hurts, but it never shows on her face. Even alone, she can't seem to shed the mask of normalcy, of passive contentment.
Katara is glad that her dreams are infrequent, to put things simply. She has enough to worry about without them.

Summary
He knew what this was.
He’d expected this, they all had to some degree, though none had predicted it would happen as soon as a week after. None of them had prepared for it, leaving Zuko alone. Defenseless, one could argue.
But Zuko hadn’t lived this long for no reason, had clawed his way out of ashes and blood to sit upon this cursed throne, and he would defend it with his life, if that was what it took.
Or
Zuko faces his first assassination attempt as Fire Lord.
