Summary
Set one month after Kara returns from the phantom zone. Kara is crumbling and Lena is there to catch her.

“But over the past month I even had trouble picking out your heartbeat. My mind has been so unfocused lately that I lost that source of comfort. I guess that’s another reason why I came here today. I just needed to be closer to your heartbeat.”
That confession made Lena’s heart ache. To hear that Kara had even cared enough to memorize the pattern of her heartbeat was already a lot to process, but the fact that audible proof of Lena being alive and well was what calmed Kara down was almost too much to handle.
Blinking away the wetness in her own eyes, Lena put Kara’s hand above the left side of her chest, pressing her palm right above her thumping heart. She figured that if listening to her heartbeat already calmed Kara down, actually feeling it might be even better for her.
Kara’s reaction was immediate. She sank lower into the mattress, seemingly being able to relax her body for the first time in weeks.

Summary
Post Season 5 finale.
Kara and Lena have patched things up but things are still a little awkward between them. When Kara suddenly gets sick and Alex is unable to take care of her, however, it’s up to Lena to step up and prove she’s really there for Kara. While they tentatively try to keep the peace and work together, the many challenges the situation presents make both of them wonder if they can make it through the night together.

“Help me understand,” Kara says. “Are you saying everyone falls in love with their best friend?”
“I’m saying that queer women have a special affinity for it,” Lena repeats, fishing the cherry out of the bottom of her drink. “The whole ‘falling for your straight best friend’ is basically a rite of passage.”
“Says who?”
“Everyone.” She puts the cherry in her mouth, bites it off the stem. “The L Word was like, built on the premise that a friend group of queer woman in LA dated each other in some sort of terrible repeating circle for, god, however many seasons that went on. And it’s been my experience that when two people are attracted to each other, and they’re close, feelings are likely to develop.”
“That’s just, I mean, come on.” Kara’s cheeks are a little pink. “A trope and a tv show? That’s your evidence?”
“So you’ve never been in love with your best friend?” Lena looks down at her empty glass.
“No!” Kara sounds affronted. “No, I have never been in love with my best friend.”

Summary
Lena's finally laughing again, and Kara has to duck her head to hide how relieved she feels. After nearly four days of absolute hell, she's finally got her Lena back, and they're finally happy and having fun together.
"And look at us now," Kara says loudly, so Lena doesn't get choked up. Or so she doesn't get choked up. Whichever. "We're like Thelma and Louise -- on the run from the law, having the best road trip of our lives."
Lena rolls her eyes. "Didn't Thelma and Louise end badly?"
"No," Kara says, clapping her hands together and positively beaming. "It ended mid-air, the freest they'd ever been."
