The agency assigned Stanley Snyder to protect Dr. Xeno H. Wingfield
Xeno calls him insufferable.
Stanley calls him "Doctor."
Somewhere between coffee, cigarette smoke, classified files and missions that never go according to plan, the distance between them becomes impossible to measure.
Trust is dangerous.
Getting attached is worse.

Summary
Vampires feed on human blood. Humans scorn vampires for their indiscrimination for violence. Thus, humans and vampires have waged an endless war, each convinced the other is a monster.
To safeguard humanity, The Hunter's Crux was founded on one sacred doctrine: to kill all vampires in sight. The Crux's word is law. The Crux is the symbol for salvation. Its faithful believes: "The Crux is the fulcrum upon which humanity survives."
Officer Stanley Snyder is the perfect servant-disciplined, devout, unquestioning. He obeys every command. His faith defines his purpose, his morality, and his identity.
However, faith can become brittle when challenged-by a Pureblood vampire of the name Xeno Houston Wingfield. Logic rules Xeno's world. Xeno does not tempt Stanley with promises of power or mercy. He offers something far more dangerous: truth.
As Stanley uncovers The Crux's hidden experiments, political manipulations, and sanctioned atrocities, he is forced to confront a horrifying possibility-that the institution he worships may be no different from the monsters he hunts.
Stanley's faith erodes into doubt. Doubt breeds defiance. And defiance manifests into something neither human nor vampire.
