“Once, a long time ago, there was a couple that fell in love. It was the sweetest love that anyone could hope for, Kyojuro. Their love was so strong that even the gods took notice of it. The gods were enamoured with watching them. The couple was so loved by the gods that the gods even made it a point to attend their wedding. Time passed, and one of them fell ill. The other half of the pair pleaded to the gods to save their life, insisting that they could not bear to live without their spouse on their side. The gods have always insisted on following the cycle of life, death, and rebirth, and so they denied the human’s request.”

Kyojuro looked at his hands as he processed the legend. “...Am I that soul?”
“...Yes. Kyojuro, The Beast has taken away countless men, women, and children. Families always end up ruined, grieving, or physically hurt. You have been dealt a bad hand in life, my love. I’m sorry that this is happening.”
In which Kyojuro is Akaza's soulmate, and his life is a living hell because of it.

Summary
Kyojuro was supposed to die on the Mugen train; instead, he finds himself meeting Upper Moon Three months before he was meant to. Falling under an unknown illness he is forced to grapple with its effects while his life is made hell, meanwhile the demon he thought he hated becomes an unlikely source of understanding.
With the story now thrown of course, the fate of the world hinges on the understanding between a slayer and a demon.
