Red had everything a benevolent impostor could ask for: Friends, a human boyfriend, and an easy job as a security guard on board the Skeld, a ship that is relatively stable and drama free. All of this is about to get turned on its head when an SOS call from another ship leads the crew into a trap, forcing Red to oust himself to save his crew from a hostile impostor.
With the secret of his true identity as a shapeshifting alien out and his partner injured and unconscious in the medbay, Red faces new challenges in the form of fear-driven hostility from crewmates he once considered friends and a complication in the form of Yellow, a young and inexperienced impostor who wants to join the crew as Red's protégé.
His life on the Skeld can never go back to the way it was before, but can he salvage what he has left and get back in the good graces of his crewmates?

It had always been the same old cycle, the same old war that set them on the same mission each time: infiltrate the ships, imitate one from their crew, and eliminate them all. It was always the same story told from the same perspective, that one side was ultimately the greater of the two evils that had to be defeated.
It's surprising just how when you look a little deeper, everything starts to appear so different, and how easily feelings can develop, even for those that were deemed inhumane.
