Summary
"We're really sorry," his father says, in a teary-eyed, wobbly way. "But your friend, Izuku, he's... He's gone, son."
Katsuki can do nothing but blink up at them for moments that feel like an eternity, eyes darting between both his parents in obvious confusion, disbelief, and, more than anything, indignation.
"What the fuck are you two talking about? The damn nerd is standing right beside you!"During a battle, Midoriya gets hit by a villain whose quirk detaches his soul from his body. Stuck in a ghost-like state, the boy enters a race against time in order to save himself from permanently dying. Much to his luck - or lack of it -, the only person who can see and talk to him in this state is no one other than Kacchan.
Alternatively: Deku and Kacchan are soulbound.

“Congratulations on getting nine out of ten questions correct! Without further ado, let’s move on to the last question..” Hanazawa paused for dramatic effect as the lights dimmed and the spotlights overhead honed in on their podiums.
“What is … your hero partner’s type?”
A brief silence.
“‘Type?’” Izuku questioned at the same time as Kacchan.
“Yes, type,” the host laughed. “Like, who would they date? What are they into?”
The blood drained from Izuku’s face and he shot a panicked look at Kacchan. The blond didn’t seem to be faring any better, his gaze zeroed in on Hanazawa as if he could will her to change the question to something else.
Izuku... didn't know the answer to that.
--
In order to increase their popularity rankings as up and coming pro heroes, Izuku and Katsuki participate in the most popular late night talk show for hero duos - ‘Heroes Rising!’. They’re killing it, obviously, because they know each other from inside and out. Until one question stumps the two of them: “What is your hero partner’s type?”

Izuku zooms in to get a better look, and drops the phone square on his face. He picks it up again only to realize with profound horror that he has somehow liked the photo. With his stupid, clumsy nose. So Izuku accidentally liked a photo on his ex-best-friend/bully/schoolhood crush’s Instagram. It’s not a big deal. Everything is fine.

Summary
It was just like that stupid idiot to do something like this. Reckless, foolhardy, unnecessary, and fucking stupid. But it didn't stop him, it never did. If Katsuki wasn't so convinced of his will to be the best hero, he would have called him suicidal. Deku had things to live for, his friends, his mother, Katsuki… But no, he was so, so infuriatingly willing to put his life on the line for a stranger’s. For a fucking criminal, a villain. Sure, Katsuki would rather there be no casualties, but, barring that, he would prefer to have the casualties be on the bad guy’s side.
So when Deku ran back into that burning warehouse, Katsuki screamed.

It's Class 2-A movie night, and Katsuki and Izuku are trying to be friends again. It becomes a comedy of errors of sorts, but a very cute, angst-less one. Including: sign language jokes, inside jokes, and extreme, unexplainable hatred of a chicken.

Summary
“A-ah B-Bakugou! You dropped some pencils!”
Katsuki stiffened. Kirishima and Kaminari froze. Basically, everyone within earshot stopped what they were doing to look at Izuku like he sprouted a second head. What did he just call him? “What the fuck did you just say to me?”
Katsuki whipped his head towards Izuku with his signature death glare as he stood up from where he picked up the fallen supplies.
“U-um I said you dropped some pencils! I think this eraser might be yours to-”
“No. What the fuck did you just call me?”
Izuku starts calling him Bakugou and it pisses the explosive teen off a lot more than he thought it would

Dialing a wrong number was no unusual occurrence. Everyone did it once in a while, and Katsuki was well aware of that fact.
However, possessing this knowledge made it no less aggravating for him to discover — a full two minutes into his rant about his day — that he’d been venting his frustrations to a complete stranger. As if that wasn't enough, said stranger was also inexplicably determined to hear his story to its end.

Summary
For the next few years, that’s how it went. Izuku and Katsuki would give each other the penny at random times, and the receiver always had to say whatever they were thinking out loud.
No matter the thought, no matter the time or place, the boys staunchly refused to lie about their thoughts. It was always the truth. Because that’s the way it went.

“Open,” Kacchan said, his voice cracking like the fire illuminating his profile. The sharp angles of his features shifted in the uneven shadow and flame, forever both devastatingly handsome and intimidating.
Deku obeyed.
Kacchan’s steady hand guided Deku’s own toward his open lips, fitting the mess of melted mallow onto his tongue. With Deku’s fingers waiting in his own mouth, Kacchan leaned in, the heady, hoppy scent of ale on his breath.
