Summary
A year kidnapped. Seven years of stolen memories. A war she supposedly helped end, faces she supposedly knows, a life she supposedly lived. It was all quite convincing, except none of it felt like hers.
Something had been erased from Katara's mind. Something that mattered enough to steal.

"Are they lovers?"
"Worse"
Look no further for the perfect meal, crafted with homegrown ingredients carefully nourished from a tragic, bittersweet, yuri amnesia situationship. Comes served with a healthy side portion of a horrifyingly deep web of political schemes, lies, and evil as well, just so your gut gets hit in all the right spots with the powerful punch this dish packs. And to wash it down, you can have the pleasure of chugging a unique, fruity natural blend of severe emotional constipation and intense homoerotic yearning, all sourced organically from Denial river in Egypt. Rumor even has it that this drink tastes like mangos...

Bookmarker's Notes
Actually peak. Shoto and Momo are soooo well written and they compliment each other so well. Also the writing of this fic was just so… beautiful. Like, so vivid.
Momo’s internal dilemmas and her stark contrast of a childhood against Jiro’s is really important to her character. She grew up so differently and while it wasn’t bad, she wonders how things could’ve been. Jiro is a curveball that Momo can’t calculate, something that throws her off because numbers never fail her. But she likes the abstract, and she finds herself wanting more, because once she starts something she won’t stop.
Shoto doesn’t realize he’s letting Midoriya so easily into his life. It’s so natural and it just happens. He learns that Midoriya sees the world much differently than he does, and his curiosity is an innocent one, very different from the piranhas that surrounded him growing up. Midoriya is similar to Momo in the way he just understands Shoto, but it’s a different kind of understanding. A questioning, but free one, a kind where Shoto needs to use his words. A kind where he learns about relationships.
Overall it’s a wonderful story about nostalgia and childhoods and family, and how it shapes us and the impacts it leaves on us. It’s about growing up, but not in the sense of maturing but in the sense of finding your place or person in the world that can give you comfort. It’s about how some relationships never change, but the people instead shift and grow. It’s about learning, and coming to terms with your past, present, and future. It’s genuinely beautiful.

Summary
Kyoka is a student with strict standards for herself. Because of extenuating circumstances that are sort of her own fault, these standards include not getting emotionally attached to anybody in her new class. Any of them could be the one to turn against her. And she's decided that none of them will convince her otherwise.

Kyoka’s past trauma gives her an extra personal layer of depth to her sarcastic, guarded, and even snarky at times personality. It makes her extremely relatable in a way that’s very believable to her character.
The confession at the end is so hopeful and the soft kiss momo places on her head and the girls’ sleepover and Jiro crying at hearing she’s not alone… ugh!!!!! I cried! 😭😭😭🤧🤧🙏🙏 the middle school lesbian trauma is universal!!! this is genuinely one of my favorite fics of all time and re-reading it is always a delight.

Summary
She reaches for him and drags him forward until his face is buried on her shoulder, and he lets out a sound that’s somewhere between a yelp of shock and a choked sob, like he’s never needed to learn how to cry quietly before. Kyouka rests her chin on his head and breathes.
“I hate this,” he whispers, lips barely moving.
“It shouldn’t have happened,” she answers, quietly. She’s clumsy with this reassurance thing, but she tries her best. “We just have to — we need to trust that they’ll get him back. All Might’s there. It’s going to be fine.”
Kaminari chuckles a bit. “Yeah,” he says, and if he were anyone else, Kyouka would say he sounds bitter. “All Might always saves everyone.”
She doesn’t know what to say. No one’s taught her how to make things like these better. So she says, “Sometimes I think being a hero is too painful to justify it.”
Or, Jirou Kyouka grows into herself in a time of war. Featuring the mortifying ordeal of being known, the methodology of violence, and choices.

Jiro: ew I don’t wanna be perceived
Also Jiro: PLEASE SOMEBODY LOVE MEKyoka just wants to be someone.
Kyoka carves her name into the roof of her grandmothers house after hearing her aunts drunken foreshadowing (ouch) because when she dies, she at least wants to be remembered. Not fussed over, because she hasn’t accomplished anything major yet, but not forgotten.
Mika and Kyoka’s conversation at the park was the first show of how much Kyoka yearns to be cared for. I really really love how Kyoka has tinnitus (I don’t think it’s ever named exactly) because of her quirk. Like that makes total sense and I’m declaring it canon. And the paragraph about it being a beautiful day… get out that hurts.
The main part of this story that got me was Present Mic and Kyoka’s conversation. Present Mic telling Kyoka she doesn’t have to wait to become someone, and she will always be the same person she has always been, just struck me to my core. Kyoka is growing up, and she doesn’t know where life will take her. She wants to be a hero, because if she has a good quirk then it makes sense to help people, no? She wants to become somebody at UA, but she doesn’t realize she’s already been somebody all along. She’s herself, and people love her as she is. But she’s not worth it, at least in her mind. At least not yet.
But she always has been, and she never had to wait to “reinvent” herself.
She wants love, and she wants to be loved selfishly and she wants to be greedy shamelessly. She craves being wanted and cared for but she won’t let anyone see how much she actually needs attention and comfort when she's hurting. When she is perceived, it startles her. Kyoka hates feeling powerful things, stemming from the pain and overstimulation her quirk puts her through. She feels weird for just wanting to have people care for her.
Kyoka not immediately falling for Momo but being intrigued and willing to entertain the idea of getting to know her just one of a million reasons is why Momojiro is my OTP. They see through each others witty sarcasm and polished smiles and acknowledge each other for who they are and who they want to be. That mutual respect and loyalty actually gets me so bad every single time.
And GOD momo confessing to her was SO FUCKING GOOD. When Kyoka finally holds out her hand, silently allowing Momo to take it, she is silently allowing HERSELF to accept somebody’s love - because she's realized she will always be Kyoka Jiro, past present and future, no reinvention needed - FUCK ‼️ Kyoka will let herself learn to be loved, and Momo won’t ever stop or slow down. Kyoka will accept herself as she is, and be kinder to herself and let herself be vulnerable.
And the platonic kamijiro… they’re best friends for life. Their first interaction being Kaminari checking her out and smirking "well hello there beautiful" was so fucking funny. You could feel how annoyed Jiro was to be around him HAHAH
This fic touched a part of me that I didn’t know I felt so alone in until I read this. It was like a gut punch after gut punch but left me in a way where the physical act of punching was nothing compared to the emotional state this story sent me into. This is a criminally underrated fic, and I’m so glad it exists.

IT'S THE SUMMER OF YOUR YOUTH AND YOU ARE IN LOVE WITH YOUR BEST FRIEND
Top three lycoreco fic's of all time. Essentially if the feeling and scenery of summer was captured into a bottle and translated into 10k words of lesbian pining and feelings. It's so beautiful and written SO vividly that it makes your bones ache in a way where you can feel the heat of the pulsing Tokyo sun seep into your skin underneath your clothes, smell the way the chlorine of the pool follows you as you run around it, and picture the way the glass of the aquarium bends and warps light and the faces reflected on it. I aspire to write like this some day
