Slytherin's Uncommon Room

Dark ≠ Evil

Light magic is so limited. How could any Muggleborn aspire to more than this? They think of magic as some quick-fix panacea for everything that is wrong with the world. Yet their ancestors murdered witches and wizards as evil incarnate.

Slytherin knew better than to share his secrets with those who couldn't possibly understand that there is no such thing as evil. Understanding Dark magic is the only path to Greatness. Not everyone who is sorted into Slytherin is capable of grasping the true meaning of this concept, but at least they weren't raised to think of the world as being tweely separated into good and evil.
