Kanao chugs down the atsukan, stinging and burning her throat in the process. She would do it a thousand more times if Tanjirou gazed at her like he did with Zenitsu. Instead, she only received a half-hearted glance, a sheepish grin, and a second to lock eyes before he looks away.
Then he’s staring at Zenitsu again. As if he had all the secrets of the world hidden beneath his honeydew eyes. He looked so happy, like seeing him was the highlight of his evening.
“It probably is.” She grumbles, bitterly, before downing the entire cup.

Summary
Zenitsu's "fuckfuck what do i do, i'm going to die- they're going to die!" and fainting on the spot would've been the end for them. Even Inosuke scoffed, mumbling a soft 'loser' at the pathetic display. Tanjirou didn't lose hope though, constantly yelling at him to wake up.
(He tries, really hard, not to let his heartbeat stutter at the way Zenitsu stood up when he screamed, "Please, I need you!". That would be a thought for another time where he wasn't dying.)

Tanjirou doesn't recognize his own strength until Kaigaku is actually about to fall over and is yelling at him. It's only then that he softens his grip, knowing how he's one slip away from faceplanting into the dirt.
After the crisis ends, his carrier- now sporting messy hair and a pissed off atmosphere- relents. He mumbles a string of typical curses before giving him a reply.
"The brat lost the promise ring you gave him on a mission, hasn't shut up about it ever since."
A look of astonishment dawned on Tanjirou's face.
"Oh."
Kaigaku snorts. His amusement is short-lived, however, when a loud "I have a plan!" cries into his ear with fiery determination.

Genya and Inosuke are sitting in random chairs, away from the three of them and more in their little world. Inosuke isn't speaking at all, too stubborn to lose a contest of silence with Aoi. Zenitsu likes to think he would've preferred bastard Inosuke. Seriously. When he's quiet and looking at the window with a snarky smile, he looks- he looks so much like a girl and it's disturbing, okay?
Kanao disrupts his inner monologue by smacking the blackboard three times. Their attention is focused on her now, and the writing on the board.
"Operation: Genzen"
Inosuke, for the first time in exactly 28 minutes, lets out the biggest holler he's ever heard.
