Summary
Life with each other could've been different, could've been better. Some part of Dazai is sure there were different roads, different paths that would've led them to a better life than this. Some part of Dazai is also sure that this is all they'll ever have, all they'll ever be.
OR
Dazai knows his love for Chuuya is futile, & that they will never be anything more than they are now. He will learn to accept that. But nonetheless, he wishes things were different.

He wished he'd begged. He wished he'd dropped to the floor and gasped out how much he truly needed Chuuya, how Chuuya permeated his bones, his body, his brain down to his fucking genetic code. He wished he'd coughed up the blood of his exhaustingly dire want for Chuuya, how excruciatingly right it felt to want Chuuya and how painfully wrong it was for Chuuya to want Dazai, too.-
