Jem’s mouth is hot at his jaw, dragging a line of heat down to his throat when Malcolm blurts it out, breathless, not panicked, just relaxed enough to say it.
“I’ve never done this before.”
He’s not expecting Jem to stop, to pull back enough to meet his eyes.
“Never… what, sex?”
It’s not judgemental, just surprised, but Malcolm flushes anyway, hot and embarrassed and unable to meet his eyes. He’s already taken his shirt off, leaving his chest bare, and for a moment he regrets it – regrets exposing himself in this way, vulnerable in every sense.
“Who was I supposed to be having sex with?” he mutters, defensive and miserable, one arm covering his chest and the other groping for wherever his shirt went.
