Summary
Steve cannot stop thinking about Eddie Munson. He lingers, unspoken, around every conversation. Has done since October, Dustin’s obsession malforming like a tumour to spread through the soft tissue of Steve’s brain.
Diagnosis is pointing to terminal, considering Steve hasn’t had a single day that Munson hasn’t crossed his mind, flipping him off while skipping past the bimmer at a red light.
In any case, Steve thinks, as Eddie trips on thin air under the bell at Family Video, it’s almost definitely fatal.

Now it's post-concert buzz and two hours of dark highway and a lot of vibes. Somewhere in rural Indiana, at exit fifty-something, under fluorescent lights that do nobody any favors, two guys make a series of seemingly reasonable decisions that lead them to a twenty-two dollar motel room with one bed, which is either very lucky or very unlucky depending on how you look at it.

They clawed at each other like men on fire, fingers digging into jackets and mouths sliding open too fast, too deep. Every breath was shared, stolen. Eddie cursed into Steve’s mouth and tried to push him to turn them around and push him against the wall, but Steve pinned him harder, thigh pressed hard between Eddie’s legs. The groan that escaped was raw and startled.
“Still wanna run your mouth?” Steve growled, lips at his ear.
“Only if you’re planning to shut it properly,” Eddie gasped.
That did it.

"I’m sure it'll be boring for you," Steve admits with a playful grin, "but I’d like to try. I’d like to learn.”
Steve froze, his breath caught in his throat as he waited for Eddie to say something, anything.
“No.” Eddie’s voice is barely a whisper, so soft it’s almost swallowed in the quiet room. His eyes remain fixed on the ground, avoiding Steve’s gaze completely. He steps back, putting space between them, his fingers still curled tightly around the figurine.
“No, Steve. I don’t have time for that.” His voice catches. “We’re in the middle of a campaign that I’ve spent hours planning.” Eddie runs his hand through his hair, his fingers tangling in a knot. “I've got this new job, and the band, and I just don't have time to teach you. I don't have the time for you.”

Years of wrestling with his friends have given Steve some ideas on how to pin somebody down, so his body acts almost on instinct when he swings his leg over both of Eddie’s, then sinks down on him, clamping Eddie’s legs together with both of his.
“Holy–” Eddie gasps, kicks his captured legs even harder. “Holy shit, Steve, wait–”
“Do you ever take off your shoes? Who would wear something that takes hours to untie?”
There’s no answer from behind him, so Steve settles in closer to focus on the upside-down boot, sinks his body down against Eddie’s. Only there’s—
“Steve,” Eddie gasps, and then they’re both frozen. Because, because, because…
Eddie is hard.
