Summary
“Do you remember why you crashed your car?” Steve asks. He pins his gaze on the stretch of black tree limbs against the suede blue of the night sky.
“I hit a deer,” Billy says shortly.
“The thing is,” Steve says, he brings his gaze to Billy, “I don’t think you did.”
Billy scoffs. “What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
Steve shrugs. “Whatever you hit, it wasn’t a deer.”
“Oh really?” Billy asks snidely. “Then what was it?”
“The Monster Squad calls it the Mindflayer.”

Summary
‘I’m sorry’ will never be in Billy’s vocabulary. They are just two dirty words that liars and cowards use. But he knows what it means to be sorry.
Billy picks up a butterfly bandage, holds it between his fingers for Steve to see. Waits for Steve to drop his chin in a nod, and then presses it into place against Steve’s busted eyebrow. It’s the best Billy has to give.
This probably isn’t going to work out. This thing Billy’s been trying to have with Steve since he got to Hawkins. Steve’s got these soft edges where Billy’s all blunt and sharp.
Billy drags his fingertips down the side of Steve’s face, presses his thumb against the scar he didn’t leave, and lifts a brow. “How many fights do you lose, Harrington?”
Steve grins, a half-formed thing that is sharp and sad at the same time. “All of them.”

Summary
“Ok. Maybe you could… come visit her? Next week is spring break, so the timing is pretty perfect. It, uh— it’d be nice to see you.”
Hm. Yeah, that… that’s actually not the worst idea he’s ever heard. He could probably handle a visit back to the hellhole that is Hawkins. It will be hard, sure, but it’s been quiet there, and it’s not like he’s moving back. He’s got a comfortable home here now and—
Wait.
“It’d be nice to see me?” Billy repeats before he can stop himself. “Nice for Max? Or are you saying that you miss me too, Harrington?”
//
Billy survives Starcourt, hitches a ride to California with the Byers, and ends up staying with them indefinitely. When it seems like Max may be having some trouble back in Hawkins, Billy is convinced (by Steve Harrington of all people) to visit her for spring break. He should be able to manage a week in Hawkins. It’s not like the Upside Down is a threat there anymore so… yeah, he’ll be fine.
