Summary
“Teach me how to swim.”
//
You knew where you stood, behind the line that clearly separated you from him: a princess betrothed to another, and a talented, handsome artist, free to explore the world as he wished.
But with each step you took into the waters, that same line grew murkier, and there would soon be no turning back.

“Do you ever regret it? That decision you made?”
You had no idea what it was that he carried with him. The secrets, the invisible baggage, none of it. There was still so little you knew about this man.
But his eyes softened, and then the hand on your head slipped down, grazing your cheek tenderly before cupping it. Touching you. Holding you still. Not to support your weight in the water, or to keep you warm.
The contact was unnecessary, not to mention improper.
He was doing it because he wanted to.
And you let him, because you were fine with that.
“I’ve never once regretted it.”
“Don’t leave. Stay.”
The words lingered in the air. They were nothing like the passionately long-winded speech that he had demonstrated for you earlier, nor as facetious as the line you had thrown at him the first time.
Just three simple words. Short, blunt, straight to the point.
And yet, that was all it took to have him draw near once more, settling down by the side of your bed
The words ‘Sleeping Beauty’ were written in cursive handwriting, beneath a lifelike sketch of a woman who was fast asleep. Except, instead of a picture of elegance and grace as the title suggested, her cheek was squashed against the pillow, and a shiny line of drool had escaped through her partially open mouth.
A sketch of none other than you.
You might have fumed, crushed the paper, even flung the covers off of you and vowed to exact vengeance then; except, your eyes caught onto something else. A secret message, perhaps.
Right there, in the corner of the sketch, where your hand was… you noticed someone else’s hand was there as well, fitted perfectly against yours, like two halves of a whole.
It was a tender moment, frozen in time and space. A moment that you didn’t remember, because you had been sound asleep. Might have even been snoring through it.
But he had been right there, with you. Just as you had asked of him.
Before you knew it, a smile had made its way onto your face.
Fine... Maybe you could overlook this transgression just once. Lucky for him.
Rafayel pretended to think for a bit, even though you could tell from his mirthful gaze and poorly suppressed smile that he already had an answer in mind. You only hoped it wouldn’t be something ridiculous.
“And what if I said, I wanted you to run away with me?”
Your heart nearly stopped.
Run away. With him.
It was those same four words again.
Your eyes snapped to him in complete bewilderment. Was he joking? He had to be joking — he certainly looked the part. His tone was light, his smile was still there, and his body language suggested he was at ease.
But his eyes — they told a different story. It was subtle, cleverly masked, but a part of you had always sensed that there was something deeper hidden beneath his words. In this moment, they appeared to be scrutinising your reaction carefully, and calibrating the response that ought to follow.
Did he mean it? Was he testing the waters, having already suggested it once just outside this bookstore? Did he really intend to take you away with him, flee and leave everything behind?
But, why? You couldn’t fathom for a second the reason he would ever want that.
Not unless… Unless…
No. You forbade your thoughts from wandering any further. Hoping for that would be much too cruel, especially knowing that it would be impossible.
An unnatural laugh left your parted lips; a shrill noise that tore through the silent air between you.
“Stop playing around, Rafayel,” you heard yourself say in as casual a tone you could muster. “Come on, tell me what you really want. If you need more time to think of something, we can put a pin in it.”
Silence.
You watched as his Adam’s apple bobbed up and down. His face was unreadable in that moment. Your fingers clawed their way into your skirt, teeth digging into your bottom lip as you waited for him to speak, laugh it off as nothing more than a joke, and carry on with your day.

Percy continued. “That’s why I’m doing it with you. Just like my reading. It's practice.”
“Yeah,” she agreed.

Summary
After a kidnapping attempt gone wrong, Scaramouche is forced to return to Snezhnaya with only one Hexenzirkel apprentice instead of two. Of course, with his luck, it’s the more aggravating of the two: Mona Megistus, the so-called Great Astrologist.
Said luck only worsens when she starts demanding detours to different countries, and he finds himself mysteriously unable to resist her whims. But between nightmares from Celestia and pet names in different nations, the two of them begin to develop something more than rivalry—something translated in the sweetness of every language they speak.
Or, in which Scaramouche is the worst kidnapper in the world, and Mona goes on an all-expenses-paid travel vacation.

He gathers the courage to look at her at last, properly look at her, and the adoration on her face tears him apart. The brilliant smile on her lips, the joy in her misty eyes.
She giggles, moon-kissed and sweet.
Scaramouche is gone. Utterly, completely gone. A lightness in his veins, a weightlessness to his limbs—he feels as though the slightest push of Anemo might send him floating forever in the firmament, never to touch the earth again.

This is the first time in a long time that he’s been so close to her, and as he trails his eyes across her face he realises all the things he never did before—the way the corner of her right lip curves up just a tiny bit higher than her left when she smiles, the way the fire splitting the dark of the night looks reflected in the dandelion-orange of her eyes, the way her laughter sounds when it’s ringing by his ear over the sound of the fireworks exploding in the sky.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” Yoimiya murmurs, and he blinks.
“The fireworks?”
She chuckles, shooting him a teasing glance, and his cheeks flare red. He’s glad it’s not bright enough in the corridor for her to notice (or he hopes, at least). “Of course. What did you think I was talking about?”
“You,” he blurts.
