Summary
“KARAOKE TIME!” Jace was shouting again, but Alec couldn’t place where his voice was even coming from. “First up! Magnussssss Baneeeee!”
“Fun!” Magnus clasped his hands together, as he looked up at Alec. “Sing a song with me, Alexander? Please?”
Alec blanched at the thought of embarrassing himself in front of what seemed like the entirety of the New York Downworld.
He wanted to say no, and the more seconds that passed, the more sure he was of his answer—
But then he looked back down at Magnus…
The warlock’s eyes were all adorable and pleading, with obvious hesitation etched into his expression—
Because Magnus was worried that Alec wouldn’t say yes—
And Alec’s heart twisted at the thought of letting Magnus down, especially when it came to such a harmless request. “Yes. I’ll sing with you, but just one song, okay?”
“Okay.” Magnus snapped his fingers, calling for blue sparks to appear in his palms. “Just one song.”

Summary
It wasn’t Alec Lightwood’s fault—
Or at least that’s what he’d tried to tell his parents, anyway.
The party getting out of hand was maybe Isabelle’s fault—
Maybe even Clary’s—
But it definitely wasn’t his and he didn’t understand why he was the only one being made to pay the price.
The whole thing had started off innocent enough. One of the higher-ups at The Institute wanted to have a simple, Hawaiian themed going away party, so naturally, he called upon the most popular party planner in all of Manhattan...
The gig turned out to be one of the most expensive affairs that Alec had been trusted with to date, clocking in at around $50,000. Everything had been beautifully decorated, too, with a luau being recreated out of a large conference room, including free flowing cosmopolitans and professional dancers in shimmying, grass skirts—
And a goddamn fire pit.
God damn that goddamn fire pit.

Summary
Magnus would say that he first noticed it during a rather quiet evening at his loft, with Alec resting beside him, their hands intertwined against the bed-sheets. They’d decided to order in for dinner, and according to the restaurant’s tracking app, their food was nearly there. In anticipation of the order soon arriving, Magnus shifted away from his bed, moving his hand away from Alec’s palm as well...
And that’s when he felt it.
It was a short moment, barely noticeable at all. But when Magnus first began to unlace his fingers from Alec’s own, he could feel the Shadowhunter slightly grip tighter onto his hand, as if Alec wasn’t going to let go of him—
But eventually, he did.
After that night, Magnus waited for it to come back. He wondered if he’d somehow gotten it wrong. Maybe Alec was just having an off-day, maybe it truly wasn’t a cemented part of Alec’s personality...
But it soon returned with full force, in a way Magnus hadn’t expected.

Summary
“You said you loved me.”
Magnus’ hands trembled as he made his way into his loft, with Alec closely trailing behind him.
“Magnus, I—”
“No, Alexander.” Once Alec had crossed the loft’s threshold, Magnus shut its door with a swirl of blue sparks from his fingertips. “You said you loved me.”
“Magnus, I do. I do love you. More than anything—” Alec attempted to voice a response to the implied question in Magnus’ words—
But Magnus cut him off, yet again. “But you didn’t stop her...Alexander, how could you not stop her?”

Summary
Magnus cautiously approached the loft’s entrance, his fingers gracefully pulling open his door—
And he was immediately met with Jia Penhallow’s stoic face. “Magnus Bane.”
“Jia Penhallow...how unexpected...” Magnus’ words trailed off between them. “I don’t imagine that The Clave has sent you to apologize for all of their misgivings against me?”
Jia didn’t respond to Magnus’ suggestion. Instead, she neatly folded her arms behind her back. “I’m here as an official representative of The Clave, yes, but I am not here on Clave business, I’m afraid. I’m here to report that Alec Lightwood, Head of The New York Institute, lost his life earlier in the evening. Seeing as you two were meant to be wed, I believe it’s well within your right to know about this unfortunate situation.”
Magnus felt all the breath leave his body—
And if he hadn’t been able to lean against the open doorway, he would’ve crumbled down to his knees.

Summary
“Magnus...I don’t think you understand...” Catarina moved towards Magnus, close enough to rest her palms on either side of his face. “Every Lightwood is going to die. Every last one of them. Isabelle next. Clary soon after. And...you, too...if you insist that you are one of them. So. Please. Please, Magnus. Tell me that you’re not one of them.”
“Catarina...” Magnus’ voice began to falter, as red sparks silently radiated from his hands. “My dear...have you been sent here to kill me?”
“...Yes.” Catarina’s answer came through on the end of a conspicuous sob. “I’m sorry, Magnus. I had no choice. They have Madzie. And she’s all I have left in this world.”
“Catarina—” Magnus’ response was cut short by the sound of a door being blasted right open—
And soon, he felt his own wrists being restrained, as he was forced down to his knees.
