Planning a wedding between a queen and her future co-consorts requires a lot more work than any of them wanted.
"Can we just skip to the part where we’re all married, and the silly planning is behind us? All the… invitations to people I’ve never met, and the picking between seventeen identical swatches of fabric, and deciding which crystal pattern is acceptable for the goblets at dinner… It’s for other people. I want getting married to be about us."
And so the three take a trip together.

Summary
Everyone knew to stay away from the untamed coast, because that’s where the pirates were.
A young man would storm out of his parents’ house, and never return. A child would wander away and disappear.
“Another one taken by pirates,” the adults would say, shaking their heads. “A terrible shame. That’s why you don’t go near the coast.”
-
Tired of life in a town all but run by smugglers, Kairi wants to become a pirate. And then she disappears, presumably kidnapped by one. Sora never thought he'd be the vengeful type, but if Kairi needs help, he'll go to her. But how terrible can the pirate be, when despite the cautionary tales, he's mostly targeted smugglers?

Summary
“I need you to make a good impression at the campaign event tonight, sweetheart. The Miyano family will be there, and it would greatly help my reelection if I could count on their financial support. Their son will be there; you need to make sure the two of you hit it off.”
Kairi found out much later that Riku had gotten a strikingly similar pep-talk before they were introduced. “Do try to be charming at the party tonight. Mayor Uchida is bringing his daughter. Can you imagine how useful it would be to the family to have his political protection? So we need you to make sure she’s completely enamored with you.”Of course Kairi’s father’s political career would benefit from the financial and underground support of the region’s oldest and most influential crime family. And of course Riku's family would appreciate any chance to add to their collection of bought politicians and law enforcement.
So Riku and Kairi were supposed to make peace with it, and join together as heirs to their families’ political and criminal empire.
Too bad they have little interest in playing along.

Summary
The mansion had been vacant for years. Decades, actually, waiting for it to be plausible for Riku to show up as a “lost heir” ready to claim it.
This wasn’t a popular location; islands could be dangerous for vampires. Not because of any “inability to cross moving water’ nonsense, but because islands had relatively small, stable populations. When everyone knew everyone, it was easier to be noticed. Or to have your hunting and feeding patterns noticed.
Riku was young as far as the clan was concerned, which meant he by default was given the short straw of returning to the island. Secretly, he’d been relieved; no other vampires to play nice with at his borders, and no need to worry about defending his territory.
At least not from other vampires. There was something in the shadows, some presence that had at least some intelligence behind it. He shrugged it off for now. It would bother him or it wouldn’t.
Now was the time to reacquaint himself with the island after decades away.
