Summary
It’s cold here. The sun is setting, and the warmth of the bunker calls to him, but Dean cannot bring himself to go inside.
Inside the thick walls of warded concrete lie anger, grief, loss and confusion, and the potent sense of aimlessness that clings to him. Inside are questions he has to answer, problems to be solved; Dean is alone among tall shelves of dusty books yellowed and dog-eared with age. Inside is the large kitchen furnished with a sprawling table and stools that lie empty, themselves gathering a thin sheen of fallen particles as they stagnate in stifling emptiness. Inside are bedrooms devoid of life, and paths wandered by the ghosts of those who used to walk there.
Inside is the place where Castiel used to be.

Summary
The stagnant air seems suddenly charged, revitalised with the tangible taste of anticipation that softens the whiskey burn in the back of his throat. A gentle hush falls over the room, waiting for something that Dean doesn’t know, but finds himself swept up in anyway.
A shuffle, the sound of a door on the far side of the room opening and closing. Then, a voice.
It’s sonorous sound rings resplendent through the room, something that seems too beautiful to exist here, amongst the tobacco rough voices and rowdy shouts of the other customers, and Dean watches in something too fragile to be awe as the most beautiful man he’s ever seen makes his way to the centre of the stage.

Dean thinks, another time, it would look insignificant cradled in his broad palm, but the gentle hold makes it seem as precious as grace, and he realises far too late that this was never something he had to hide from the angel at all.
