The sound of heavy breathing woke Diego first. He turned on the lamp and Luther stood right in front of him, like someone had just chased him through an alleyway and then screamed in his face. There were tear tracks on his cheeks and his shirt looked wrong, like someone had taken it off and put it back on without looking. He leaned against the door and slid down it until he was sitting there, that same scary look of panic on his face.
Then he started crying.
Luther meets a girl on their family road trip. Turns out, she's not the person he thinks she is.

He almost wished they were all back in the sixties again. Sure, none of them had been that far from dying back then, but at least he had felt like somebody. Ever since they’d gotten back from 2019, every day had felt the exact same: clock into his first job cleaning equipment at the gym, then leave and get into a delivery truck for his second job, handing out meals to seniors who couldn’t leave their houses easily. The sense of stability was nice, he had to admit, but he couldn’t help but feel like he was just a worthless cog in some huge machine, punching the clock day in and day out, waking up to the same alarm every day to drive to the same building, to have the same meaningless small talk. It wore on him, day after day, and Lila had gotten sick of his complaining. They started sleeping on different sides of the bed every night.
But it didn’t really matter. He felt empty inside anyway.Series
