Whumptober Day 11: Hallucinations
He finds Mikey huddled on a bench dressed in nothing but a pair of torn-up jean shorts, shaking like a leaf in a windstorm as he rocks back and forth, hugging himself. As he rushes towards him, he can hear the low, incomprehensible, terrified mutters tumbling out of his lips. It isn’t until he’s only a sparse few feet away from him that they begin to form into actual words: “Leo’s coming, Leo’s coming, Leo’s coming, Leo’s coming.”
“I’m here” He calls, settling a hand he hopes is comforting over Mikey’s shoulder. “I’m here, baby, I’m right here. You’re okay.”
In response, Mikey bursts into tears and lurches his shaking hands up to his mouth, clawing at his already cracked and bleeding lip.
“There’s bugs in my mouth, Leo” He sobs. “There’s bugs in my mouth!”

Whumptober Day 23: Fever
She’s standing in the corner of the room.
She doesn’t look right, stood against the white tile walls of the hospital – or maybe she doesn’t look right because she’s not smiling, or maybe it’s her dead eyes piercing through him. Renet had always been so expressive, a bundle of light and life trapped in the slums of the city with scum like Mikey. She didn’t look right dead.
Maybe it’s the sunken eyes and pale face, but the drugs had impacts on them all. He’s sure he doesn’t look right himself, sprawled in an unfamiliar bed as a fever rages through his system. The doctors had told him to expect it – a withdrawal from meth can cause a fever.
But they hadn’t told him he would see her. He can’t tell whether the sight of her is nauseating or filling. She was his everything, and now she lies rotting underneath the ground in a public park without a headstone to be found.

Whumptober Day 30: You're not making sense
“There’s” He gasps. “I-There’s a thing. Bad thing. Have to tell you. Can I tell you? It’s. It’s bad.”
You’re not making sense, he wants to say, but the old drug sitter techniques he’d carved into his skull are coming back with every quickening beat of his heart. He wouldn’t do drugs again, right? Would he?
“What is it?” He pries gently, and then adds as the words paranoia flash in his brain (an impending sense of doom is a symptom of a heroin overdose), “I won’t be mad, I promise.”
Relapsing is part of recovery. Relapsing is part of recovery. Relapsing is part of recovery.
Mikey gasps again, pressing himself against the back of the couch. Leo sits there with his heart running a million miles per hour in his chest as he gathers his breath and his senses enough to speak:
“I got raped” He rasps at last.
And just like that Leo’s rapid heart rate stills entirely with ice cold horror and dread. “… What?”
