Summary
Hanako is an agent of chaos.
He initiates and schemes malicious plans for it, calculating each cunning move and exactly which words to say that will piss Nene off to no end and apologises for none of it.
Nene, unfortunately, has had the luck of a wet sock for falling in love with this beautiful bastard of a boy.

Summary
Look, Hanako can admit that he’s a pretty honourable and strong supernatural being, even when it sounds egotistical.
He’s fought supernaturals ten times his size, battled exorcists that wielded swords as heavy as their heart, and is a respectable figure in the School Mysteries who has made supernaturals grovel cowardly in his sight.
But something in him just softens when he sees Yashiro Nene, and maybe, just maybe, he feels as if he can be human again. Just for a while, if he allows it.
Or, Hanako and Nene play out in the snow. Chaos ensues.

Summary
The sentiment would’ve been nice, almost domestic, if Nene wasn’t mortified at this second.
“—‘I love his eyes, always twinkling like emeralds!’” Hanako feign sighed dreamily, fluttering his lashes for extra theatrical comedy.
Currently, Hanako is reading her diary. Yes. Her diary. The one which she always kept clutched to her chest tightly like the book held unspoken secrets of the universe on the pages.
Or, Hanako is a menace and decides to steal Nene’s diary.

Summary
It was quiet, too quiet. The silence seeped into her bones and settled there like a curse. And that said a lot for a girl who always thought silence was soothing, romantic even. But at this moment, it was just excruciating.
The ominous creak of the door bounced off of the walls. But Hanako did not stir. He did not look back to see who it was, nor did he say anything. The boy merely adjusted his posture as he gently placed himself against the cool bite of the window.
Or, Nene teaches Hanako how to indulge in something that won’t run away.

Summary
Usually, Hanako would say that he‘s a rather dignified figure within the School Mysteries.
He has single-handedly exorcised most of Kamome Gakuen’s ghastly spirits with a flick of a knife, nearly broke the laws of time and space time travelling, and survived the wrath of a certain blonde exorcist who holds nothing but hatred for him.
But right now, this image strikes nothing but a stark contrast of the honourable reputation he’s built up of being the seventh wonder of the Seven Mysteries.
Or, Hanako gets sick. Everyone suffers.

Summary
Nene is a romantic.
That, now, is extremely obvious. You’d have to be incredibly stupid to not notice.
Nene weaves emotion into everything, bleeding feelings until she’s raw with it. Spending sleepless, countless nights up late at night, writing heartfelt confessions packaged with pink ribbons and glittery love hearts just for it to all get spat back into her face.
So, Nene does what any sane human would do.
She breaks, and Hanako is there to pick up the pieces. He always is.

Kou opened his mouth, his brows furrowing with provoked anger before Hanako stopped him.
“Buuut– nevermind that!” Hanako leaned on the windowsill, dragging his arms across it like an amused cat.
“Truth or dare, Yashiro?” Hanako slipped a card in between two fingers, and Nene scoffed plainly as Kou buried his face into his hands with the exhausted expression of a man who’d rather be reincarnated as a wet sock.
Or, the toilet trio decide to play truth or dare. Things drastically escalate, and frankly, Nene is having none of it.

Summary
She can’t handle the lingering stares or the tingling touches that remain even when absent. She can’t handle the sleepless nights she spends up late thinking about simple things, like the way his fingers stayed for longer, or the way she notices his dimples when his lips rise into that familiar smile again. And those things shouldn’t make a person flustered, not a normal one at least.
But Nene is not normal, so she does what a girl has to do to get it off her chest. She does something so shockingly out of character that it even catches Hanako off guard. And that makes the two of them.
She grabs the sides of his face, pulls his lips to hers, and simply lets herself feel.
Or, five times where they almost kissed, and the one time they did.

Summary
Nene claims to have a strong immune system.
She has, after all, crossed six boundaries, managed to survive a definitely haunted house where spirits still linger in the creaking floorboards and peeling drywall, and is currently hanging on by a thread— seeing that her lifespan probably is as long as the timespan for which she took care of her plant she nurtured when she was in middle school. Which is to say, approximately a week long before it wilted and shrivelled like some sad raisin.
Nene is able to take care of herself. Definitely. Surely. Absolutely.
So why on earth has she caught a cold and is snivelling like some human snot vacuum?
Or, Nene Yashiro somehow catches a cold in the middle of summer, and Hanako takes care of her. Yashiro says she hates it, but, as the poets say (probably), words often lie louder than the heart.

Summary
Yugi Amane died in 1969, body bleeding dry and limbs limp and too cold to move— to reach out for something.
Hanako was the product. Hanako crawled out of the nameless corpse and was born from it.
Amane Yugi is not Hanako.
Hanako is not Yugi Amane.
Hanako will never be Yugi Amane, no matter how much he tries to be.
He is tainted. From the second he reached for the dagger he was tainted. From the second he plunged the knife deep into flesh, from the second he spilled blood that was not his— he was tainted beyond repair.
Perhaps Yugi Amane and Hanako are two entirely different beings, despite wearing the same skin.

Summary
Hanako is not emotional.
He is a thing sculpted out of decades, created out of the unfeeling hand of time. Hanako has seen things that no person should ever witness— has witnessed life and death throughout all his time being bound to the confines of Kamome. He does not do emotions, or jealousy.
Hanako does not get envious, or sad, or feel anything for that matter, thank you very much.
And yet.
And yet.
But Hanako does not get emotional, he does not pout nor sulk like a child (he absolutely does).
It is tactical. It is strategic. And it is called chasing away your feelings until they start chasing you instead.
And he is currently drowning in his own emotional repression, otherwise known as denial.
But it’s not like he was willing to climb back to the surface in the first place.
Or, Hanako gets jealous and refuses to admit it.
Nene sees anyways.

Summary
“Love.” Nene deadpans.
“Yeah, like you two circle each other like two animals until the inevitable happens. Except animals have more braincells than you and don’t blame everything on their teenage hormones.” Mitsuba rubs his eyes with a bleariness that could only be described as one you could only attain from occasional thirdwheeling.
“I was in a very emotional headspace and you know that! I can’t believe I’m surrounded by a bunch of heartless cretins.” Nene whines, facepalming as she nearly knocks herself out in the process.
“Okay. So, there’s this thing called kissing. I think it might be helpful for the two of you. The stench of repression is getting out of hand over here.” Mitsuba puts a hand over his heart as if he’s being a perfectly reasonable person.
Nene almost blacks out. Hanako still has an unrecognisable look on his face. Possibly shock. Possibly the last two brain cells in his head using its last remaining strength to finally make him realise the painfully clear truth.
Or, Hanako and Nene call it an argument. Kou and Mitsuba call it love.
