Summary
Brian tapped Obie's shoulder, “Look at Archie.” He whispered.
God, Archie was not what Obie wanted to be looking at or even thinking about. He wished he could listen to this scripture and find some peace, and have belief in it too, but it was hard to believe in a god that was both all-knowing and righteous yet seemed to favor people like Archie. Reluctantly, he obeyed Brian and looked for him.
He scanned the crowd, spotting his blond hair on a head tilted to the side on someone’s shoulder. It was Emile’s shoulder. Gross. Janza was the last person most would dare to even get near. Obie wanted to laugh; he felt vindicated in his private idea of those two being weird.

Summary
Obie's interview was inconclusive, just like Ray’s. He was a good kid: average grades, no history of trouble with the law— and he’d never even gotten a detention. It was hard to believe that a boy so nervous and stiff could have tried to do something like that. Ray was a good kid too. He seemed to honestly believe that Obie manipulated his access to his guillotine to try to kill Archie, who was his enemy. Therefore, Obie's fate all relied on the next person’s interview.
“Archie Costello,” a police officer called out to the station’s waiting area.
Archie didn’t look at anyone at first, not at Obie or Ray who sat distanced around him. He stared blankly ahead at the wall in front of him. He was silent. He then looked at Obie as he walked in, giving him no expression, no hint at what he was going to say.

After the events of Fair Day, Obie realizes he's more like Archie than he thought, which means he's more like Emile than he thought too.
When Emile decides to be Obie’s friend, making him feel protected and reintroducing him to the enjoyment and power of being cruel, there's not much Obie can do about it but realize that crazy animal isn’t as incompatible with him as he once thought— it’s beautiful, perfect in a way of something planned by Archie…
