This mini-fic occurs after the events of "The Hostage"- Click Here to Read
Sgt. First Class Liluana "Lilu" McLovin, U.S. Army Rangers and former U.S. Army Ranger/Captain America John Walker have remained friends after the events of "The Hostage." Lilu convinces John that maybe he could use some help with his PTSD with the therapist Sam Wilson recommended for her at the VA Hospital in Washington DC. John reluctantly agrees, but it opens up a floodgate that neither he nor Lilu could ever have anticipated.

Summary
John is living in a small apartment alone while he's waiting for the Watchtower remodel to be finished so he can move in with the other Thunderbolts. Something that sounds like a shot startles him awake and sends him down a PTSD spiral. Lilu happens to call and finds him in this state, and goes to intervene before it gets worse. PTSD is probably a least understood aspect not only for John Walker, but many military veterans returning from military service overseas without resources or adequate help from the Veterans Administration or the government as "repayment" for their service.

Favorite Ship: Yelena and John are like siblings
The Watchtower is ready for residency. John and Lilu have joined the rest of the Thunderbolts. But Lilu is not ready for the Watchtower. She gets acquainted with some of the other residents and their antics, especially Yelena, who is her counterpart in giving John a hard time, all in good fun, but it seems like Lilu might be a little bit jealous. How many found girl-siblings can I guy have? Is there a favorite? And is Lilu sad because it might not be her? Because Yelena is cute even to her eyes.

Summary
Debunk anti-John theories: John is a right-wing Captain America in FatWS (Ranker.com)/John is a MAGA Captain America from the 1980s (playtyperguy.com). While these theories have some basis in comic book canon, the 1st conflates patriotism with conservatism. The 2nd is more damning, but sensibilities change over time. Yet, as we see, they can change back. This fic, which is a continuation of the week's storyline, deals with "what if this theory were true? does it mean that John can't change or isn't open to seeing a different point of view? This is based in no small point on the evolution of my white boyfriend who moved out west and lived with my latinx culture first hand, and discussions I've had with a conservative friend in CT.
Chapter Summary:
Lilu discovers that John has been a staunch conservative, following his family's beliefs, after hearing him voice anti-immigrant sentiments. This conflicts with how he behaved at her mother's house. In any case, this is a deal-breaker, which sends John into a tailspin. He's forced to face some uncomfortable truths about his family's views and whether or not he truly feels the same anymore. After all, he has reason to believe otherwise, and every reason to change.
