But the cards don't mean anything. It's not a proper deck of cards, like the one his mom had. It's just... he needed an excuse and didn't get it. Maybe he got some honor or something.
Maybe his dad would be proud. He frowns at the thought, and goes to continue with his work.

"They didn't tell us one of them was useless in battle!" The one who just attacked said. They licked their lips. Kana backed up, sword at the ready. They prepared their axes—
There was suddenly an arrow in their chests. After a brief moment, the arrows broke and splintered, making the two men cry out in pain. After a moment, they collapsed. From their sides was a girl with dark brown hair, holding a yumi. The apothecary pack on her back identified her as the original victim of the axe fighters' assault, for it was beaten up with scratches. There was a serious look on her face.

His mom would like that, wouldn't she? He pulled the other kimonos away from it— oops, a blue kimono fell. He kicked it aside, leaning up to pull the kimono from the wall and letting a bit more light in. He felt the kimono in his hands. It felt surprisingly light. He was honestly a little scared he'd tear it, but it called to him.
Maybe his royal birth could be worth something. He remembered wearing yukata when he was younger. Maybe he still got it.

The ice he had his eye on was starting to fade away into the distance again. He could content himself with just the water; it was such a different shade than he was used to. Faintly, he registered Midori's arm brushing against his, and this time, it stayed there.
Her arm was flush with his, their hands dangling close together. His eyes glanced down to the point of contact. He could move a pinky and wrap it around hers, couldn't he? It would feel nice.

Her father stared down at her, scarf fluttering in the stale air. His face was covered in wounds, a scar right over both of his eyes. A longer wound cut across the middle of his face, tucking into his clothes. His eyes were blank.
He didn't speak. But his gaze showed disappointment.
