Set roughly 10ish months following the conclusion of the Dominion War, this story is told in two parts:
Garak finds himself back and forth between his family on DS9 and helping his countrymen rebuild on a rubble-ridden Cardassia.
Even amongst all the darkness that dogs him while on his home planet, he still finds there are things to be hopeful for.

Summary
Julian Bashir, Ex-Chief Medical Officer of DS9 and decorated war Hero has lived on Cardassia Prime for the last 3 years. However when his partner, Elim Garak, is appointed as Ambassador, he joins Garak on a journey back into Federation Space. There he tries to be the perfect Cardassian partner, supporting Garak however he can as Garak fights for his people to gain aid against the terrible conditions that continue to ravage the Cardassian Star System.
However, Earth isn't the utopia Julian hopes it to be. Instead he faces off against forces that seek to break him and his relationship. Can Julian prevail? Or is his life and his relationship forfeit?

Summary
Garak has been Castellan for three years now. Cardassia is slowly starting to flourish under a free and democratic society.
