Summary
There was something out there that they couldn’t understand, something that couldn’t be explained by their existing knowledge of the world, and Lucy had been aware of it, but only in the ways that so many people are aware of the numerous bad things out in the world.
Those things that happened, but always to other people — not her friends and family, and definitely not to her.
As she lay dying in a dark alley, throat ripped out and whatever small amount of blood that was left behind rushing out the gaping wound, she wishes she would’ve been more careful.

Lucy hums knowingly, tugging Julie closer with the arm resting casually over her girlfriend's shoulder and noses at her temple. “The feminine urge to fuck something otherworldly; a well-known phenomena. I’m familiar,” she intones, like this is a thing that people know about. Buck tries not to shift too conspicuously in his seat. They don’t know anything, he just has to keep calm. He thinks he remembers Karen mentioning a fantasy book she’d been reading in her queer book club, that has to be what started all of this.
Nobody knows his secret.
He's made sure of that.
