Summary
Shouji is already there, beside the lantern, gazing up at half of a full moon. The only sounds are Tokoyami’s steps and a low rumble on the horizon, the leaves whispering rumors of the oncoming weather. It might be just in his head, it might be fact, but there are some things that Tokoyami believes could, maybe, possibly, conceivably, god willing, be true and it is:
The rain would be good for them.
Shouji would be at his most beautiful.

They train under the secrecy of night to avoid harming others than themselves. When Shouji is gone for a whole month, however, he is given a surprise.

They’re sitting over a small plate of biscuits and tea outside a small cafe that’s far removed from the hustle and bustle of the inner city, most of the cookies eaten by Naomasa and most of the tea sipped by Toshinori. Toshinori did, in fact, have a small mouthful of tea when Naomasa so lightly asks, “So when are you going to ask me for sex?”"

“That’s not what I’m asking, though. You know that.”
It’s like the bell is a firefly caught in the jar of a cruel toddler, shake shake shaking until it’s fit to break any second. “I don’t, no. I don’t - you talk so strangely sometimes I can’t keep up, sometimes it’s so weird I can’t make heads or tails of it and I have tentacles. You’d think that it’d make me smarter, having more brains but I have to make my own brains and generally they’re just really sad mush I wish I didn’t see or make in the first place.” There’s not any pauses between shakes anymore, just a constant ring. “It’s pretty gross, if I’m being honest.”
“I believe you.” A small, pale hand rests on top of Shouji’s. The bell’s ringing has stopped, the silence broken still by the wind’s low hum. “I just wanted to know why my friend is cold and alone this fine starry night.”
