Andrew Ilnyckyj wishes he was dead. After the car accident that took away his fiance, there was nothing in this world that was left, but pain and suffering. In the year that he had spent in his parent's house, he was plagued by their disappointment, his disability, and things in the dark that he could not explain.
When his parents were pushed to their limits, he was taken to Blackmore Institute. They had hoped that doctors would help cure the hallucinations he sees and to prevent him from hurting himself. It didn't matter how many times he had explained that he didn't hurt himself.
In the institute, he finds worse nightmares that lie in wake. However, when he meets doctor and specialist Steven Lim, hope is planted into him. Steven may be the person who can him shut the door to the other side or Andrew may be the one who pulls Steven in to it.

Summary
Adam Bianchi has found his own place in the world when he moved to New York with his husband Steven. They're celebrating the from the news of Steven's pregnancy when they suddenly received an ominous present at their doorstep. A simple black box housed a doll with a note only addressed to the couple.
The arrival of the doll had started a tragedy when they requested for it to be thrown away. When Steven's brother volunteered to get rid of it, he was found dead the next day with the doll in his room. With the death of Alvin, the couple was forced to visit to Gardenia Falls for the funeral.
However, an awful feeling settles in Adam's gut when they come back their hometown. A looming dread that tells him that they should have never returned.

With that, a bet was made and a trip to New York was taken. With a painful past, Andrew comes to terms with a few things of his own. He knows the different tastes like he knows his own name. Will he and Steven come to learn the taste of defeat? Or will they learn that sometimes life can be sweeter than they thought?

He could take an axe to someones head, deform their skull, and leave them dying, but he couldn’t stand coffee.

Every little thing reminded Steven that he hadn't seen Andrew properly since their Dish Granted episode together. Even though they had texted a bit over the past year or so, talking felt awkward and distant, as if long strolls on the beach where they shared a lot (and so much more than they thought they would) had never happened. They were like acquaintances talking online; as if they had lost that spark that made their friendship feel like a warm fire on a cold night.
(Steven thinks he fucked up after almost kissing Andrew. Shane thinks Steven is actually Andrew's gay/bi/pan awakening.)
