Cloud had been working with a vigilante group calling themselves Avalanche, utilising the technology of dream sharing to extract information in order to bring down the Shinra Electric Power Company. Though he did not share their selfless yet grandiose goal of saving the planet from the clutches of an evil conglomerate, he did not mind working with them, and the money was alright.
However, there might yet exist something even more dangerous and cunning than Shinra, and it might be right here, among them.
