Baizhu watched in awe, as he did every time he had the privilege to watch this moment, as Zhongli’s appearance started to shift. It was subtle at first; his golden eyes became something much deeper, pupils slit to that of a reptile. Parts of his skin darkened, first in just colour, and then with shimmering scales the colour of dark chocolate fading down into the black of his claw-tipped fingers.
He slid his outer coat from his body, neatly laying it aside as Baizhu watched the horns growing through his hair, curving and lengthening until they were how Zhongli preferred them to be in this form.
“You’ll show me, won’t you darling?” he asked, his voice taking a lower, much more molten liquid tone that sent shivers rocketing down Baizhu’s spine as he nodded slowly, mindlessly.

Of course, no amount of warm touches and comfort could override the fact that there was still work to do. The weekend was only a slowing point for Baizhu, not a stop. Prescriptions had to be written, appointments had to be confirmed, Qiqi needed breakfast and help with her morning stretches. Not that Zhongli was an unwelcome presence in these quieter work days, but that day did have to start eventually.
“I should get up,” Baizhu says. “Qiqi will be awake soon.”
A grumble of discontent sounds from Zhongli’s chest. A deep vibration, like the rumble of distant thunder.
“We have a little more time, qīn'ài de,” Zhongli says. “Neither of us have any appointments today.”
“The prescriptions will not fill themselves.”
“The prescriptions can wait another hour.”
