Caleb drops heavily onto the bed. It scrapes along the floor, its slats creaking under his weight as he lies back. The adrenaline has burned him out, leaving him heavy-limbed and groggy. He can only just make out Essek still standing in the center of the room, still as a statue. Caleb closes his eyes.
“I am very tired.”
The edge of the bed dips, then there is another body, barricading him between the wall and the rest of the room. Close, but not touching, familiar enough from long weeks under the ice. A presence Caleb has had plenty of practice relaxing into.
“Then sleep. I will keep you safe.”
Now that, Caleb thinks as his thoughts grow dim, is a promise I believe.

Summary
The night sky looks the same on either side of the Ashkeeper Peaks; the only differences are cultural. After a meteor shower, Caleb and Essek take the time to share their versions of the constellations, Essek learns the real tragedy of humans not having darkvision, and Caleb’s focus is more earth-bound.
AKA- Essek is looking at the stars, but Caleb is looking at Essek.

Summary
Caleb laughed as he kissed Essek’s cheek softly and fell back to continue his reading, “Don’t judge it till you try it.”
“If that is the case, then I will never be allowed to judge,” Essek absentmindedly flipped a page in his book.
“I’m not so sure. I can imagine you with dirt on your face and ink staining your hands.”
“Perish the thought,” was all Essek had to say on the matter before the two fell into a comfortable silence as they read.
The problem was that Caleb could not allow the thought to perish.Day 1- Ink
Caleb wastes some very fine ink, Essek tries to teach Caleb prestidigitation at the worst possible time, and both of them learn that sometimes messes are more fun together.

Summary
This is a Podfic of OPERATION: HOT BOI LIBERATION (or: How I Spent My Spring Break in Rexxentrum, by Verin of Den Thelyss) by CatgirlTheCrazy.
Author Summary:
The more Verin dug into it, the more convinced he became. Essek had spent an inordinate amount of time with the Mighty Nein when they came to Rosohna. Done all sorts of strange favors for them. Ferried them all over Wildemount. Arranged visits with prisoners in the Dungeon of Penance. Let them dig up his yard. Descended into Aeor with them, unaccompanied. Accepted invitations to dinner. Let one of them hug him. In public. More than once.
Mind control. It had to be.
Verin gets it into his head that Essek has been kidnapped by the Mighty Nein (specifically Caleb), and sets out on a solo rescue mission to Rexxentrum.
Hijinks ensue.

Summary
"I am not consecuted," Essek whispered.
Caleb blinked. "You're not?" Shock stabbed through his insides like an icy lance.
-
Bookmark Notes:
That got the tears flowing. Caleb felt a weight shift as something settled down besides him on the couch. Two thin arms wrapped themselves around him. Caleb buried his head in Essek's shoulder.
After a time, Caleb said, "There is one question I feel I must ask you. You know I can cast Raise Dead." Essek nodded, though it wasn't a question. Essek had seen Caleb use that spell before. Caleb went on, "Everything I have read about traditional resurrection magic suggests it does truly bring back the original soul, whole and unchanged. But if you are uncertain… If… If…" Caleb swallowed hard. "If something happened to you, and you do not wish me to bring you back… I won't." It felt like ripping his heart out to make the offer. Essek dying, and Caleb not bringing him back, even when he could? The only thing more unbearable would be trying to rip Essek out of the afterlife when he didn't want to go.
Essek took a long moment to answer. Each minute (Caleb could count them all) stretched to the breaking point. "I said before that I trust your judgement. If you believe it will bring me back, as myself… then yes. I want you to raise me."
Well. That was something. Essek might only get one life, but Caleb could at least ensure that life did not end prematurely. It would have to be enough.

Summary
"Unfortunately, our progress has stalled out somewhat," Ikithon says, slowly circling the beacon on its stand. Under any other circumstances, that would be the thing that drew Essek's eye.
Instead, his gaze is fixed on the man sitting in a chair at the circle's center. A picture of misery, he is bound hand and foot to the chair with thick iron cuffs. His face is mottled with bruising, his rust colored hair hangs in limp, tangled clumps, and his clothes are torn and burnt. Wide, frightened eyes the color of daylight sky whip frantically back and forth between them.
Essek knows that face. He knows it all too well. Not two months ago, that face kissed him on the forehead and told him that he was still capable of good.
The bottom drops out of Essek's stomach. Please not him.
--------
After the peace talks at sea, Ikithon approaches Essek with an offer he can't refuse... But dearly wishes he could.

A not inconsiderable part of Essek is still kicking himself for just forgetting the beacon like that. The thing that he has dreamed of for decades, the thing that he started a war for– unfettered access to a beacon, free of the Dynasty's restrictions and scrutiny. And he just left it on the laboratory floor like discarded trash.
Alternatively, it could have solved his political problems in the Dynasty. Being the first person in almost three centuries to present an entirely new beacon to the Bright Queen? A deed like that would be more than enough to buy himself amnesty for his treason. To be sure, he would never be allowed to hold any government office ever again, but he would at least be allowed a quiet retirement, instead of exile or execution.
But if this mistake had restored some of the Mighty Nein's trust in him… well, that was worth more than all the beacons in the Dynasty put together to Essek.

Summary
To fit them both under the desk, Caleb is nearly on top of Jester, his knees framing her head, his crotch six inches from her face. Under his hastily-refastened pants, his erection is still very much evident, which is probably why he’s sitting so far forward.
Barely daring to breathe, Jester catches her lower lip with her teeth, an outrageous idea occurring to her. Caleb is only giving terse responses to Dr. Thelyss’ comments, but that doesn’t seem to be putting Dr. Thelyss off, or maybe he just doesn’t notice. Jester scoots forward and puts a hand on Caleb’s thigh.
He stiffens under her touch, dick twitching. Jester waits for any further reaction, and when there isn’t any, she slides her hand towards his groin.
Caleb’s fingers wrap around Jester’s wrist and she freezes. Her pulse throbs in her throat, the pressure of Caleb’s touch acute on her skin. Then he deliberately releases, letting her hand fall back onto his crotch.
Jester grins in triumph and moves in.

Summary
The red eye on the back of her hand stared at her balefully, a ticking time bomb, and Beau could feel the modicum of self control she had kept starting to stretch thin.
She was perversely grateful that Caleb also had gotten an eye, two eyes now, giving him more of the attention and soothing remarks from the rest of the Mighty Nein.
She wasn't sure she could take it right now, plus she had an idea that she really didn't think many of the others would be agreeable to.
It was quick work to rule people out. Caleb, no, he had enough on his plate. Fjord would freak out, try to give her another pep talk. Jester would never do it, would be too good to do it. Caduceus would be helpful in the aftermath, but during he would just try to give sage advice and that wasn't what she wanted. Yasha... no, Beau wasn't going to drag Yasha into this, not with them just starting to take little steps into potentially more.
So, Veth it was.

Summary
“I’m fine,” Essek interrupts, even as Caleb can feel him shake through their scant touch and considerable layering of clothes. “I’m, just– I need a moment,” he says on one breath, and turns his face away to breathe in hard again. Like his lungs won’t work with him, like he cannot get enough oxygen in this moment of panic–
– ah. Caleb makes a soft noise, and is surprised as much as he… isn’t, really. They are alike, the two of them, so alike.
