This was supposed to be a one-shot, but I don’t know how to stop. This starts with Haymitch and Effie meeting for the first time, and it will end sometime around/after the ending of Mockingjay. There are time skips between each chapter since the story covers so much time. It’s a slow burn, but I promise there will be plenty of fluff and smut to go around! Modern AU based on characters and events from the Hunger Games Trilogy-is it canon or not? Probably not. Starts at the end of cabin fever by atetheredmind. Katniss and Peeta had disliked each other for years due to a misunderstanding, but after being stranded together they get smutty. Just prior to the beginning of my story, Johanna had found them sleeping under a blanket together on the lounge floor. I take it on from there to the end of mockingjay through my alternate universe.This is smut at the beginning but less so in later chapters when I found I actually had a story to tell as well.

Author's Note: I'm not including detailed play-by-play information about the tributes in the Hunger Games. While I'm also curious about each character's experience, I’m focusing more on their personalities and backstories before and after the games. I aim to explore how the Games and other factors like class differences and family issues affect them. I’ll include game scenes only if they enhance character development, but these will be limited. If we're solely entertained by these characters' times in the games, are we no better than the Capitol? There are plenty of other stories online that cover the tributes' times in the Games if you're interested. I hope you enjoy my approach! <3

Haymitch Abernathy may be Capitol University's most unusual student. He's not like other District children, who are in awe of all the Capitol has to offer, nor is he up to the Capitol's standards, with wealth and status. He has no interest in school activities or clubs and is never seen on campus past 3. He has no interest in getting to know anyone from the Capitol, or letting them get close to him, not when his younger brother was his priority.
Effie Trinket could be his exact opposite. Polite, popular, clean and on time, she has no use for the boy who has caught the eye of nearly every professor on campus. She would be the first to ask about your day, to help you if needed or just to vent. Never in a million years would she think she would be getting to know anyone from the Districts, since they seemed to be intimidated by her. After all, her sister had left her mark on Capitol University and now it was Effie's turn.
