She had braided it herself that morning, since her dad had an early shift at the shop again, and she still hadn’t been able to master getting the braids tight enough that little pieces wouldn’t fall out throughout the day, especially when she was roughhousing with the T-Birds. Her fingers weren’t deft enough to hold all three pieces of hair at once, yet she could change a tire easily. Go figure."
Cynthia's on the brink of falling apart, and her flyaway hairs are about to be her final straw. She finds help in an unexpected corner.

Olivia pulled the warm sweater over her head and barely kept her reaction off her face. It smelled like Cynthia. She wanted to wear it forever. She knew she couldn’t.
She hadn’t realized she pulled out her mirror to check on her hair until Cynthia laughed a little. Olivia nearly blushed when she noticed Cynthia staring at her, eyes a little wide.
“Looks better on you than me.” Cynthia then rubbed Olivia’s hair to mess it up. Olivia glared but her cheeks warmed and butterflies swarmed her stomach.
She had given the sweater back the next day and they never spoke on it again.
It wasn’t a surprise when Cynthia came out to the pink ladies the first day of spring break.
